My kids will be 13 months apart and I am due with #2 in May. Initially my plan is to have them sleep in the same room for a few years and then move to separate rooms. So my question is...would it be too soon to transition DS to a toddler bed or should I just have 2 cribs in the nursery? If I get DS a toddler bed the new baby can sleep in his crib.
Re: sleeping arrangements...
DD1 Feb 2010
DD2 Sept 2011
DD1 switched to a twin mattress on the floor at 17 months. She never cared for her crib and we ended up cosleeping so it was an easy switch for us. So personally I wouldn't want to buy another crib just for a few months of use.
Could you keep #1 in the crib and use the PNP (assuming you have one) with #2 for a few months? Then you don't have to fork the money over for an entirely new crib.
My 2 are 13.5 months apart. We didn't transition our 1st into a big girl bed, and we ended up getting 2 cribs.
Our 1st is still in a crib at 2.5 with no intention of moving to a big girl bed any time in the near future.
Do you have someone that has a crib you could borrow?
Like you, I really didn't want to buy another crib, but I am not ready to move DS to a toddler bed. My mom has a crib at her house (that she uses when grandbabies spend the night) and I'm going to borrow that one.
We successfully transitioned both DS1 and DD1 to a toddler bed at 15 months and a twin bed with guard rails at 2 years. Had absolutely no issues with falls, climbing, getting out of bed. (However now DS1 and DD1 share a room, with separate twin beds, which has developed into a nightly slumber party mentality - so it used to take them 15 minutes to fall asleep, now takes 45). Plan to move DS2 to his toddler bed in a few months and start reserving crib for this LO. GL!
Ours will be around 22 mos apart and I didn't think twice about leaving DS1 right where he is in his crib. We will keep him in as long as possible!
We will be purchasing a new convertible crib for DS2.
