How to find a nanny - NW burbs?

I am a FTM who, unfortunately, has to start looking for a nanny/babysitter as I will have to return to work on Feb 25th. My little guy is 9 weeks and does have some special needs due to health issues which is why daycare is out of the question for us right now. We are looking for someone who can be here consistently Monday through Thursday from 9:00 - aprox 2:00 with some flexibility for extra hours on some days. We are newer to the area we live in and have been asking those that we know for recommendations and thoughts on their experiences with childcare but it seems most of them are SAHMs and don't have a ton of experience with finding help.

Btw, we are out in McHenry County. Cary to be specific.

 My questions are:

- Where would you recommend starting to look?

- What did you do to qualify the person? (Meaning back ground checks, etc.)

- What rate did you pay?

Any and all advice is very, very appreciated!! Thanks!

  • I have found great caregivers through sittercity.com. A lot of them were from McHenry too. (I'm in Volo)  Sittercity or Care.com do background checks and you can talk to them through private messages before you meet them. Some of them even have reviews that other employers wrote.

  • Care.com has a LOT of certified caregivers, but also some less experienced ones. Make SURE you interview. Ask them if they believe in the same discipline as you, etc.
