DS has an ear infection that he's on antibiotics for for a week now... Saturday evening he started whacking at his ear something fierce and doesn't want to lay down awake even to have his diaper changed. And today he got hoarse/coughing and felt warm but not to fever yet like he was in the early days along with an insane amount of ear wax in the one ear (not completely blocked, but a good 2/3)... OTOH, for the first time in three weeks, starting Saturday night, he started letting DH & I have 5 hours of sustained sleep in a row (does Mom's asthma flare some good to clear)..
Our insurance just changed (DH's work was sold and it's a transfer over to the new owner's policy issue so it's all still getting figured out)... This is the 2nd full blown ear infection since mid-December... Knowing it's potentially going to be out of pocket and around the same price point, would you make an appointment with his Ped even though it'll take a while to get in... Give a call to the doc who prescribed the antibiotics knowning that she'll just say "come back in"... Or say the heck with that business and just take him to an Ped. ENT because it just doesn't seem like what he's got going on in the sinus' is clearing AT ALL (it'll go from green to clear in the course of the antibiotics then just as soon as it goes away and we stop antibiotics, it comes back)..
Re: WWPD...
So I guess my point is to see an ENT and get a specialist opinion. They approach things differently than a pedi. A word of caution though...a specialist can be really expensive so you might want to wait until you have insurance.
