If you have a fireplace come in!

We have a gas fireplace and a stone hearth in our living room. I have been googling some ideas on how to baby proof it and I have found some good but very involved ideas. My big worry how to cover and if need be just baby gate off, the stone step in front of it.

Anyone currently baby proofing with a fire place and have a crafty idea on how to keep it safe? TIA!

  • DH thinks we should make a set on cushions to go on top of the hearth. I have a friend who used a cushion, but instead of covering the foam with fabric, she just folded a quilt on top of it.

  • I am in the same situation.  We have a wood burning stone so ours is rounded and they seem to only make covers etc.. for the standard type.  When DD was little I considered having one made by this company https://www.babysafetyfoam.com/, but I was not able to find reviews etc? and never ordered one.  Basically we just watched her close and kept her away from it.  We don?t have fires going when the kids are down there.  I am not sure what I will do this time around I may just go with the watch closely plan.  Ours is in our basement family room so the baby is not down there all the time.

  • We got a piece of plexi glass and cut it just right so it fit in tightly over the front.  We did this with #1 and still have it. We didn't bother until he showed interested and kept trying to get in there and it is obviously so dirty.  I like that the plexi glass just makes the fire place look normal.
