s/o- job rut (are you happy?)

Anyone else in a job rut?  I mentioned mine in the "are you happy" post.  Care to discuss?

Re: s/o- job rut (are you happy?)

  • I'm a teacher too and been in the same position for six years.  We have changed our curriculum some and how we teach quite a bit, but I feel like I'm ready to move on.  I've been thinking about applying for a different in-district position, or maybe even out of district (but the poor economy has me worried about that).  I've also been thinking about trying to take some online courses to work towards a higher degree, but I'm not sure what or where to start.

As much as I'm ready for a change, I am hesitant about home much work it would be.  I feel like I'm doing a good job teaching now because I finally know a lot of ways to supplement our textbook to engage students and I have files of helpful guides for myself.  Moving to a new position would require me to start from square one.

Time will tell if I move on.  It mostly depends on available openings (and of course getting hired).  I'm not going to leave my tight knit team for something less than perfect.

  • I'm more in a rut with my schedule.  I have plans to modify my work week so that I only work 4 days a week and I think that will help.  As DD gets older, I feel like I'm missing more by not being with her more often and I'm hoping this different schedule will help.  My boss wants to wait until they figure out promotions this year (since I'm on the list for one) and then we'll revisit the topic.

  • I am.  I hate my job.  But I may not have to worry about it for long (which is freaking me out too).

I need something where I can modify my schedule a bit more.  I'm thinking 4 days/week 10 hr/day work 6 am - 4 pm.  Fat chance so I'll just keep on keepin' on, until they decide what they are doing with 2 of my locations.

  • I definitely feel like I'm in a rut. I've been in the same position for almost 8 years, and I'm tired and a bit bored with what I do. I feel like I need a new challenge. There isn't a lot opportunity for upward advancement in my field at my company as manager positions rarely become available. I think I need to start looking elsewhere, but I'm afraid I won't be able to find a position that sounds interesting to me that pays well enough. I have a great salary and benefits where I am now, and the thought of losing them makes me nervous. I'm also having a hard time motivating myself to actually work on my resume and apply to positions. Maybe that means I'm not ready yet?
