NB AIOs

After reading the below thread about the BumGenius newborn all in ones I am wondering if there are any high quality newborn all in ones or pocket diapers. I do plan to use prefolds and covers, but I'd like to have a handful of AIOs or pockets in the newborn size as well. Any recommendations for brands? I'm looking for something to last until one-size pockets fit. I'm willing to invest in a nice set of NB diapers since I plan to use them for multiple children, I just don't want to buy something that will just leak and not last more than a few weeks...

Thanks for your recommendations!

Re: NB AIOs

  • Kawaii Pure & Natural pockets.

If I had to do it over again I would get at least a dozen of them. They truly fit a newborn and continue to fit to 20-22 lbs. They're a pocket, so at first 1 insert is more than adequate, but they can accommodate additional stuffing when needed. Plus they cost $6-7.50 depending on where you get them, so they are a great value.

  • I had Kawaii Pure and Natural and Grovia NB AIO.

Out of those two, I'd definitely recommend the Kawaii.

    KAWAII

They fit longer (she still wears them at 8 months ~ 14 lbs, but fit perfectly at 6 lbs too)

    They work well.

They are durable.  No signs of wear and tear, even though they're a regular part of my stash

    They are so much cheaper.

They have great aplix, so it's easy to get a good fit. (Lots of times my Aplix diapers get stuck to each other in the wash and they wear out, but this hasn't been an issue with the P&Ns)

    GROVIA

She outgrew the Grovias in absorbancy and size before she fit into her OS diapers.

They were more expensive even though I got them on sale

    They took forever to dry.

  • I have a ton of NB dipes because we went through an awful stage where DD was too small for OS diapers but wet too much for the newborns.  In the beginning I loved my Lil Joeys and BG NBs.  Then they started to leak.  All. the. time.  Grovia NBs worked awhile, but not much longer.  Kawaii P&N did not ever fit her right before she got too big.  I liked the Alva pockets I got for awhile, but they only worked a few weeks.  Probably my favorite were the Thirsties AIOs I got towards the end (you can stuff them if needed), but not sure that they would have worked from the beginning (she was 6#5oz at birth).

  • I loved NB BG.  DD wore them for 8 weeks.  Grovia AIOs leaked every single time.

My prefolds were too big for my xs covers last time.  This time I am getting a dozen NB prefolds also.

  • I liked my Swaddlebees newborns a lot at first.  They have an attached insert that comes out by itself in the wash.  The prints are adorable too!  They lasted several weeks longer for absorbency compared to the BG newborns.  At 4-5 weeks though the one size AIOs started to fit.  So if I had to do it over again, I'd get fewer nb AIOs.  Prefolds and fitteds with covers work great for the nb stage.  I would stick with those.

  • I love my NB Kissaluvs AIO. I think it goes up to 15 lbs so I'll be using it for awhile longer. I wish I had gotten more because it's way better than the NB BGs I got as gifts. Also, it has the fold down for the stump.

  • The newborn Swaddlebees and Fuzzibunz XS were my favorite right after birth. Kawaii P&N were great, but I don't remember them fitting my LO at the beginning at he was 8 lbs. Maybe it just depends on the baby. My NB alvas fit right away and I'm still using them, but the insert started to leak around 6 weeks and I started using an Imagine Bamboo Smart Fit prefold (small) instead of the microfiber, and we've been golden since.

  • I'm guessing diaper opinions depend very much on the size of the baby.  My DS was only 5lbs 11oz at birth and 5lbs 4oz by the time we were discharged from the hospital.  Since DS is so small I love Lil Joey's and Grovia AIO's and haven't had a leak yet.
