WWYD newborn skin peeling

My Ds is 4 weeks. Our photographer took newborn photos and they turned out pretty bad. She's agreed to retake them but the problem is his skin has started to peel. Would you wash his face and try to get the peeling off or will that irritate things and make it worse? I generally don't care about the peeling as I know it's harmless but I'd like him to have some nice photos. Any suggestions are welcome !

Re: WWYD newborn skin peeling

  • I don't think washing will really help - a gentle wash would be fine but I don't think you'll be able to get the peeling fixed with it.  Maybe see if lotion makes it less noticeable?

  • I was told not to put anything on his face for the dry skin.  Pedi said it was hormonal and lotions wouldn't help and could get into his eyes.  Maybe the photographer can airbrush or touch up areas that are noticeable in the pictures?

  • From what I understand, that's a newborn thing and was told you shouldn't try to remove the flaky skin because you could irritate the skin that's still alive. I would just do a warm bath right before getting the pics taken.
  • I don't think there's really anything you can do except see if the photographer can touch up the pictures. I wouldn't use lotion on LOs face and honestly, I tried using lotion on the peeling skin on my sons feet and legs, and it seemed to make it worse.

  • I would wait until it stops on its on and then take pictures. I would not try to force it off by washing or pulling.

A little A&D might help. That is what I put on our newborns' hands and feet when they were peeling badly. I would avoid regular lotion, though.

  • There's really nothing you can do. You may just want to lather her up with lotion right before the shoot.

  • I am surprised she didn't retouch them for you. Did you ask her? We just had ours done and she got rid of the baby acne for us.

  • We used vaseline on our baby per the pedi's advice. Just a little dab goes a looong way. She had really bad dry skin on her face (it almost looked like windburn) and it cleared up in just a day or two. She had really, really bad dry skin on her feet too (it was cracking and scabbing up) and the vaseline cleared that up in about a week. Maybe try a dab of vaseline on the bad areas. Just be warned, it does make their skin shiny for awhile, so you may still have to retouch the photos a bit, but maybe less that if you leave LOs skin dry.
