I've done a pretty good job of not buying anything for a while, but I just can't stop making stuff.
I just donated 3 medium fleece soakers to a local woman who wants to do cloth but couldn't afford the startup (a friend and I teamed up to make her a bunch of diapers) and I made another medium because I missed using fleece during the day. DS also has 3 large fleece soakers that fit over his over night diaper, so I made extra larges out of some extra fleece my mom had when I was home over the holidays (I really wanted to play with her industrial serger). I think I might make another medium because I still have plenty of fleece, and because 8 flips and 6 g-diapers aren't enough covers. Our local fabric outlet has such good deals on fleece remnants that I can't stop buying more cute fleece. And yes, I've been looking at the malden mills fleece since I know that's what you really need for fleece soakers, but the polar fleece works well enough for us, and the last thing I need to be doing is buying even more fleece.
And then there's the wool. DS just outgrew one soaker and two longies that I had made, and the other longies came out too big. He only had one wool soaker *gasp* (not like he doesn't have plenty of fleece). So, I made another soaker and longies and a wrap. And, since thrift stores are much cheaper where my mom is, I managed to pick up 5 more wool sweaters over the holidays, 3 of which I haven't even touched yet.
Aaaaand, I still have more bedsheets. I've made 3 flats and a fitted with snaps out of an old 100% cotton bedsheet. If the fitted didn't take so darn long to make, I might do more of those.
Re: The other kind of addiction (sewing)
Me too! I made my own flannel wipes a while back and thought about making some doublers for my pfs but that's a far as I got. I decided I'd just order some if I needed them.
I'm jealous! LOL. I decided to just buy cheap baby wash cloths for wipes.
I made them out of recieving blankets. About halfway through hemming them I was wondering why I didn't just fork out the money. lol
This is my next sewing project (after I finish a few others). I'm going to scour my fabric stash later but pretty sure I'll wind up buying new fabric. https://klein3.blogspot.com/2012/02/diy-crib-rail-teething-guard.html
Ok, so I'm a CD novice. We stick with what we have - prefolds and covers with a few pockets - and haven't really explored other options.
How exactly do fleece soakers work? What do you put inside? Is there a pattern online you can recommend?
I love making fitteds, expecially the squishy little newborn kinds.
Right now I've got 30+ yards of apparel fabric that are waiting to be made into clothes (I've kind of been slacking and putting it on hold because I want to get my serger, but when I keep spending my money on fabric, it kind of takes away from my money to buy a serger -- who would have thought!)
I've got around 7 yards of fleece, I think? I made a hat for A that is two toned, so I bought some more for my nieces and have to get those done (hopefully this weekend) and I'm going to make a carseat poncho for A, too.
I don't know how much quilting fabric I have, because I've actually been pretty good about putting myself on a buying restriction with those until I go through some more of it. Although I do have like 10 or so yards of flannel.
For diaper making I've got at the moment 5 ish yards of PUL (with 3 other prints of PUL that I want sitting in tabs on my browser because I'm trying to not buy them yet), 2.5 yards of regular weight bamboo, 3 yards of bamboo flannel, and I've got a coop bringing me 3 yards of bamboo velour and 1 yard of HOBF at the beginning of next month. I do need to order some more hemp fleece since I use it in my fitteds. And I've got between 3-5 wool sweaters that still need to be made into longies/soakers/wraps.
Groan.... I am never going to afford my serger or my new sewing machine at this rate. Maybe I just need to drop hints to J for Valentines Day and our anniversary....
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
I just did a single layer and aimed for 27"x27" finished. It gave me a chance to play with my rolled hem attachment. They have to be pad folded since you can't get a snappi to hold, but they hold plenty of pee.
