For those who are breastfeeding...

How often are you feeding your LO at this age? DD still eats a lot I find..like after 2 hours she wants to feed. Also she used to sleep through the night, but in the last couple of months she wakes up a couple of times.

I was at the doctors and she said by 9 months she'll only feed once or twice a day. I just dont see how this is possible, she clearly doesnt know my child.

Audrey is going to be a big sister!

  • LO nurses every 1:30-2h, even after we introduced solids. She only gets two solid meals/ day and at this age, they should not replace feedings just yet. At night, she wakes up 4-5 times most nights.

I think she will be nursing almost just as much by 9 months, but we'll see.

  • Every hour during the day, 2 if I'm lucky. He's up every 2 hours at night to eat too. There's just so much going on developmentally, they need the nutrition. My DS is currently rocking on hands and knees desperate to crawl, starting to use a pincer grip, pulling up to standing on things, and starting solids BLW style.

Also, your baby's primary source of nutrition for the whole first year comes from breatmilk/formula. I wouldn't be happy eating only once or twice a day, it's a little silly to think a baby would be okay with that.

  • Owen eats 3 meals of solids a day and nurses every 4 hours around 7am, 11, 3, and then 7pm none at night. He nurses and then has a meal an hour later so around 8am, noon, and 5 for solids. It works really well for us.

  • It varies. For the 4 days I'm at work, she nurses once in the morning, then has 3 bottles during the day (about every 3 hours), then she nurses 2 -3 times before bed. On the days I'm home, she nurses every 2 hours. She has solids twice a day. I don't expect her to drop to 1-2 nursings a day until after a year & she starts drinking cow milk. As pps have said, the main source of nutrition should be formula or breast milk until one year old

  • Maybe she meant solids?  DD nursed or took a bottle five times a day until at least a year. At nine months she went from averaging 15 ounces when I was at work to around 12. Solids is for practice until around a year.

    this for me too!

  • During the day, about every 2-3 hours. He sleeps through the night about 50% of the time - some weeks are better than others. He does not really like solids and I would laugh at any doctor who said by 9 months he should have dropped all but one or two nursing sessions in favor of table food. That doesn't seem realistic to me either.
  • That is bad info on behalf of your pedi...

Agreed, there's no way she meant only nursing 2 times a day.   At around a year, DD#1 started to cut back a bit and really eat her meals.  But, before that, she was on an every 2-3 hour schedule from birth.  We were still nursing 2-3 times a day until she was almost 2.

This is us too. Although I haven't started lunch time meals yet. I can't imagine her eating more than this, she is a little pig as it is.
