Cloth Diapering

using a wipe warmer for cloth wipes. Mixed reviews?

I have a wipe warmer from DS that I am either going to use somehow, or give away because it's just adding more clutter.

I like the idea of keeping the cloth wipes only slightly moist and warm for use, and then spraying the wipe with the solution before wiping baby, but I've heard mixed reviews. Some people say that the wipes "brown"? I'm guessing that's because of the little heating pad thingie in the wipe warmer. People have also said that they start to stink, and I read one woman who blamed the wipe warmer for her son's frequent break outs because when she stopped using it, the break outs stopped.

Has anything used a wipe warmer for cloth wipes? Like it? Hate it? Tips/tricks?

  • What is TTO?

I had planned on using the pad, because while I don't want them to saturated with the wipe solution, I do think it'd be nice to have them a little moist and warm to begin with. I don't think it's going to kill me to refill every day.

    Thanks for the input!

  • I used one briefly when DD was a newborn and only overnight. It helped her to not get so stimulated and back to sleep quicker. I put several in wet, turned it on at night and turned it off again in the morning. Never had any problems.

  • We use one and I love it! I have never had them brown or smell. I prep them by mixing my wipes solution with water and getting them moist with that solution. The oils help to prevent mold from growing. I have also never had a problem with rashes.

  • I have one and wouldn't give it up for anything.  I use the pad on the bottom, and keep it moist with some water with a drop or two of tea tree oil in it. (I just empty the warmer and pour the TTO water right over the pad until it is saturated with a bit of extra water for a bit of extra security.  I also add one drop of TTO to my wipes solution.  Never had any mold, mildew or funky smells with this combination.

The pads only turn brown when they get too dry.  I make up 25 wipes at a time.

    Hope this helps.
