My DH and I are tossing around names and came across Michaela. I like it but a couple of questions popped up.
1. Do you like the spelling Michaela or Mikayla better? Or is there another one that you've seen before that you prefer. I prefer if Michaela because Michael is a family name on my side but I don't want people to think/pronounce is "Michael-A" (like michael with a long a). I hate the "let's add a random y to each name and make it you-neek" but if it's easier to pronounce then I might consider the second spelling.
2. Does it look like a made up name? I really don't like made up names (i.e. kinsley, ainsley, hadley) and I don't want people to have that thought when they hear the name.
Opinions welcome! Thanks!
Re: Opinions on name and spelling
same opinion here
1. I could be very wrong here, but I was under the impression that Michaela was the only legit spelling of that name.
If I were using this name that is the spelling I would use-- Michaela. I would think that most people would know how to correctly pronounce this name.
2. I wouldn't say that Mikayla looks made up, but if I saw it I would know it was not the original spelling of the name. FWIW, I do believe that Ainsley and Hadley are not made up names. I can not speak for Kinsley.

1. I am usually one for spelling the traditional way, but I hate the spelling Michaela. All I see if Michael and then oh there's an "a", so although I know it is not pronounced Michael - a, I would almost go to that first than have to correct myself.
2. I know Mikayla is a newer variant, but I have actually seen it quite often so I think it is becoming more acceptable.
Overall, it the name is NMS, but definitely not one I hate.
I grew up with a girl named Michaela, so I always assumed this was the correct spelling. It is weird to me now when I see Makayla (most often) or any other spellings. I do see your point about pronunciation issues, but I think most people know how to say it, and if they don't, it's a quick fix to tell them the correct way to say it.
ETA: I just remembered my husband has a cousin names Michaela, pronounced Michael-uh. (She goes by her middle name so that's why I didn't immediately think of it.) She was apparently named after a character in a book, but we kind of all think her mom just didn't know it was pronounced like "Makayla" and so they all say it wrong.

Just pause for a moment and take in Mikayla. Just look at it. Breath deeply. Now try to tell me that it doesn't look ghetto. (I hate using that word, but I really can't think of anything else).
Michaela is beautiful.
I don't have a problem with it, per se, unless your husband's name is Michael. Then you get a major side eye from me.
And I agree.. Michaela is the only good spelling of it. Most other versions look very juvenile.
umm...ok. this was odd to me.
