Our baby name list has expanded and retracted several times now. Here's the current top 18 we're aiming to narrow down from (or possibly expand from if we encounter any other 'perfect' names)
Thoughts on them?

Here is what I would narrow it down to:
Thaddeus
Caian
Emmett
Conrad
Callum
Evander
Ansel
I would knock the list down to:
Caius
Thaddeus
Aldous
Conrad
Emrys
Callum
Ansel
In order of how I like them: Thaddeus, Conrad, Ansel, Emrys, Aldous, Callum, Caius
Thaddeus has been Top Five for me for many years. I especially like the nn Tad.
I like Thaddeus! I also like Emmett but it's trending to me now. I like Sullivan instead Sylvan!

Guess I am in the minority but I love Caius, it's always on my list of favorite boys names. I also like Thaddeus, Emmett and Callum.
Is Caian pronounced Ky-Ann? I love Caia for a girl.

I like
Ansel, Emmett,Emrys, and even Caius (although I would most likely place it in the MN spot).
The rest are not my style.

I'd keep Emmerich, Thaddeus, Zamir, Emmett, Aldous, Conrad, Ansel, Salman.
Not sure about Sylvan, kinda like it as a nature name, but it is more of a place name for me.
Sorry, this is nerdy, but since I just finished reading a book on Lincoln last week I need to point out that Tad Lincoln wasn't short for Thaddeus. His name was Thomas; Tad was short for Tadpole.
That's true, but Thaddeus Stevens is a major character in the movie.

I feel with that list like you are trying to pick an awkward hard to say name.... hopefully not your intention.
Can't really say I like more than a couple........
Thaddeus
Emmett
and Ansel
Strike the rest.
Wow, so many responses! Too many to respond to individually, but:
@ whomever said how is Caian pronounced, it is ky-un. It's the Welsh variation of Caius.
Certainly seems like Thaddeus and Emmett got a lot more love than most. I guess I'm not surprised, they are amongst the most familiar for most people. Unfortunately they are also two that are quite likely to get cut, mostly keeping them on the list just in case we have a change of heart and wanna go with something more 'American standard'.
I'm quite surprised that Amias (uh-my-us) didn't illicit any sort of responses from anyone. It may be our current favorite (possibly).
In all honesty, the ones that seem to be shining the most in our minds these days are
Amias
Caius
Evander
Caian
Zamir
Emrys
Emmerich
and maybe Callum
I do realize many of these names may be uncommon to the average ear (and many people have expressed such), but personally I don't feel like any of these names are particularly 'far out there'. They're almost all names that have been around for hundreds or thousands of years, and have relatively simple pronunciations. Some of them might be mispronounced by teachers on the roll call sheet, but once they heard em once, the pronunciations really are pretty easy. We've definitely had some much more 'far out there' names at different stages in the baby naming process. I'm okay with somewhat strange names though, my own name is very strange, but with thousands of years of usage and a really nice, uncommon sound. I've never met anyone with a name I like more than my own.
