Confused on Test Results

Okay, to begin with I am so sorry for posting again, I have tried google to no avail.  I have my baseline test results via my online account with the RE office.  I didn't receive a call which means all of the levels came back normal.

My question is, yesterday I was CD 28 but when they did the transvaginal ultrasound the tech said I had a ripe follicle and had not ovulated yet but should any day.  My progesterone level is 17.2 ng/mL and my LH is 3.76 mIU/ml.  If I'm understanding correctly (and I may very well not be) looking at the average numbers it seems like those would show I already ovulated, and possibly not even yesterday?  Is there a reason that the ultrasound would look like I am about to ovulate if I already have?  FWIW the HcG is less than .5.

  • I thought they tested your progesterone to determine whether you had ovulated. That is what 7 dpo blood work is for, right?

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!

I thought so too, they just kind of ran everything at once as part of "baseline" bloodwork.

  • The ultrasound can pick up if you have ovulated or not. If you have a follicle or follicles that are big enough then you are getting ready to o. If you have ovulated then there will be a big pocket of fluid where the follicle was. Progesterone is checked to test for ovulation and needs more than 5 but you need more than 10-12 to sustain a pregnancy. Progesterone is released when the egg releases when you o. Seems like you might have a longer cycle this month if you haven't yet o'd and it's cd 28? Best of luck!

Thank you so much, yes this is a weirdly long cycle, I am definately committing to charting next month because this is so confusing lol.
