Cat Question

I know it is early to be asking this, but I figure the earlier the better. Do any of you ladies have cats? I have 2. They are great; actually love babies. One of them is a jumper. He jumps from the floor to the top of our entertainment center, which is 6 ft tall. I am afraid that he will jump into the crip. Any ideas on how to cat proof the crib?

We have to keep the baby room shut.

Our cat can leap tall buildings in a single bound. And climb like a monkey.

And he likes to hijack Amazon boxes and turn them into pirate ships and go on many adventures.

I have one cat, she is my princess. :-) I have had her since I was 13 years old so I am pretty attached. DH and I have talked about it and decided that she will not be allowed in our baby's room at all. As far as jumping in the crib/basenette where the baby will sleep in our room - I guess we will just have to see how it goes. I will never leave baby unattended in the same room as my cat though.

We have two cats and plan to keep them out of the room when the baby is sleeping.  I know they will want to get in the crib and cuddle.  So until our little one is older, they will be kept out.

We have 2 cats, and they have full run of the house. I guess I haven't really thought about this. I'm really not concerned... Maybe at some point I will be?

ETA: the older cat scratches at any door that is closed, so I don't think that'll be an option.

The bassinet and crib were both favorites with my cat!  We stopped letting him in the room - which of course made him want to go in all the more, but it solved the problem.

I have one cat who loved to camp out in the crib before the baby arrived, but kept kept his sweet distance from our son once he was here and it was never an issue. 

There are the nets they make that go over cribs if you're really worried. I don't know how well they work or if they're annoying to remove. Maybe someone that has used one will post.

 We also had friends that put tinfoil down in the crib pre-baby. Their cat hated the sound it made when he walked on it and learned to keep out.

We have 3 cats [and a golden]. I have no idea what we'll do, but will figure it out. The will be nursery is currently one of the cats favorite napping spots, she's not going to be too happy to give it up...

Both our cats sleep with us, but never once have they jumped into the crib.   I know one trick is to set the crib up and place tin foil inside it, after a few scares the cat should stay away.

I have 3 cats and a crazy Papillon pup! When I was PG with DS,  my cats used to sleep in the crib. Once he arrived they were terrified of him. Now they stay away and he is almost 3.5.

We have just one cat, and I was worried about this same thing. I read that they HATE tinfoil and double sided tape. So both are options by or on the crib. Just a thought

 Not all of them. My cats think tin foil is fun to run around on..and they just try to eat tape. Blegh. Worth a try, but not a guarantee unfortunately.

I have 2 cats as well.  LOs room will be strictly off-limits to them.  My cousin and his wife also have cats and when their son was born they put up a screen door to the babies room.

Some suggestions I have read/heard from people are to either install an indoor screen door (and not allow the cat into the baby's room) or they sell these "nets" that go over the crib that should prevent the cat from jumping into the crib.

My SIL has 3 cats, but they don't really jump and so they installed a half door to their baby's room.

i wouldnt get the net over the crib thing. that would just make another bed for the cat to sleep on. lol

I like this idea of prepping the baby room and letting the cats know it's off limits, thanks for the tinfoil suggestion! We have 3 cats, all indoor/outdoor. Our doctor said to just have my husband clean the litter box (though I've done it a few times because it needed it!)

Are any of you expecting and have cats that sleep in your bed? Is it safe, or can they still transmit toxoplasmosis? I'm going to ask my doctor about this on my next appointment in 3 days, and keep searching online for answers.
