Hawaii Babies

Prenatal classes

Hey everyone!  Just wondering if anybody knows of good prenatal classes on Oahu.  I live on the Windward side so would love recommendations in Kailua or Kaneohe, although I'm open to traveling to other areas of the Island.  I would love to join a prenatal pilates/yoga class.  I'm also interested in taking informative classes since this will be my first child.  Would also love to join any support groups, walking groups, etc...as a way of getting to meet other pregnant ladies out here.  Thanks for any advice!

Re: Prenatal classes

  • I just signed up for the class at Castle Medical Center - there are a few different types, and all the info is on their website. I also want to find a prenatal yoga class so let me know if you find anything! I tried one in Manoa area but I'm 17w and everyone else there was like, 36w and I felt really ridiculous.

  • I've only found three places that do prenatal pregnancy yoga:

    1. Purple Yoga university which has two a week, sat and Sunday mornings. They have great reviews.
    2. Open Space Yoga Diamond Head which also has two classes a week 9'e on Sunday am and another Wednesday am ugh.
    3. There's also one on the north shore, can't remember the name.

I think I might check out purple yoga myself. They have 10 class packages for 135. It's gonna cost a ton to go twice a week but I think it'll be worth the money. I HATE yoga DVDs.

  • We're signed up for the Prepared Childbirth class at Kapiolani and Infant Care/CPR class at Pali Momi (or maybe switch those locations...) starting next month. Anyone else delivering at Kapiolani?
  • The Baby aWEARness store in Manoa has a resource center that has a LOT of classes advertised. The owner teaches Lamaze and I saw several Bradley classes advertised there as well.

I wasn't living in Hawaii with my first baby, but if the hospital classes here are like the one I took, it wasn't that special. I already knew most everything from my book and internet reading.

Personally, I'll be going to the classes my midwife in Makaha offers.
