Well, I was craving McNuggets until I read this!

I was planning on having a "cheat" (ie - unhealthy) meal this weekend while DH is OOT and I was craving McNuggets. I was pretty sure they're safe to eat when KU, but I did a quick google search to confirm. Then I came across this article:

Warning: If you ever want to enjoy another McNugget in the future, you may not want to read this!

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/whats-infast-food_b_805190.html

my favourite line: "Chicken McNuggets, rather than being merely chicken fried in a pan, are a McFrankenstein creation of various elements not utilized by the home cook."

What do you think? After knowing this would you eat a McNugget PG or not? I try to stay away in general from foods that are extremely processed and chemical laden, so this has me torn. They're delicious little McFrankensteins and I'm sure one time isn't going to hurt!! lol

Considering you want to stay away from extremely processed foods, I would stay away from them :(  Sorry.  Do you have a Chick-Fil-A near you?  Their chicken strips are 100% chicken, it's an actual piece of chicken that is fried instead of that icky stuff from McDonald's.  If you don't have Chick-Fil-A try a nicer restaurant that has chicken fingers or buy them from the grocery store so you can look at the ingredients list...there might be a healthy kind out there.

Unfortunately we don't have Chick-Fil-A where I live (in Canada). I have heard that they do use real chicken though. I think I might have to come up with a plan B!

Hot dogs are another really gross thing that you should never actually know how they're made. My FIL used to be a big head honcho of a huge food company here and told me once how they're made. Apparently they have to pump them with animal blood once they're almost done to be able to even call it animal protein. If you're going to eat a hot dog, all beef is the way to go!

Bummer Sad  Yeah I realized after I hit "post" that you lived in Canada.  What about trying to find some at the grocery store or health food store?  Then at least you can look at the ingredients and try to find some that are healthy...

It's not so much about the nuggets, I actually wanted to just get some fast food and I really like McD's nuggets! I might opt for a hamburger and poutine from Harvey's instead! Embarrassed

I know fast food is really bad, but I seriously never eat it, maybe once or twice a year, so it definately isn't going to be a regular thing.....just incase anyone is judging my poor food choice!

I'm not a huge hot dog fan, but I do eat them. We only eat Hebrew National ... whether those are good or bad I don't want to know. Really.   I'm taking the stance of ignorance on this one.

I do indulge in Wendy's chicken nuggets a few times a year, but I also make my own.  Slice chicken breast into small strips, soak them in a water/egg solution for a few hours, toss in a flour/breadcrumbs solution and then fry them.  I try to make sure the oil is nice and hot so not as much oil is absorbed into the chicken and use a heart-healthy oil.  They taste great when I want to eat a comfort food for dinner.  They are also yummy cold for lunch.

Yeah, McDon's isn't healthy by any means and they do use weird processes to make their nuggets so that grosses me out. However, if I'm craving nuggets, I'm eating nuggets.

I don't do McDonald's period (or any other fast food places, really), but I do like a nugget every now and again.  If you're looking for a more natural, healthy (but yummy) alternative, I suggest checking out Bell and Evans Chicken nuggets. I know they're sold at Whole Foods, but I think some other stores carry them as well.

Whole Foods is another magical place of fiction here in Canada. I've never heard of Bell and Evans, but I'll look for that brand. Thanks for the tip!

    a.) gross

b.) glad I really don't eat fast food

c.) it's gotten to the point where I have a hard time eating out b/c even many restaurants in general serve bleached chicken.  You'd be surprised how common that is. Once you're aware of it, it's much easier to pick out the chemical tastes in a lot of restaurant food.

This, and the menu from taco bell I think comes from food chemists rather than chefs of any level.... but it's tasty and I like to enjoy these items from time to time (though, since I'm GF for the pg I will not be eating them until after baby bear is here)
