I wish the news would stop covering these so much. These people get off on it. If they didn't get into the limelight, I don't think there would be as many.
I agree with this to a point, but it's a vicious cycle. In reality, they are just doing their jobs. Reporting the news. It's tragic that school shootings happen, but it would be effing weird if the evening news were just about like... a pothole on a local street wreaking havoc. So it sucks but it's just like.. how do you avoid it?
I wish the coverage would focus solely on the victims maybe, and not glorify and or obsess over the shooter.
No one will ever forget the name of that pathetic man who shot those kids in Connecticut. But can anyone tell you the name of those poor babies?
Ugh this makes my stomach sick. I don't think I'll ever be able to talk about it.
. I actually think the news is getting better about this. I did "26 things" after Newtown, so I remember a lot of the kids' names and teachers. But right now the name of the shooter is lost on me. If someone mentioned it I would definitely remember the connection I am sure.
It might have been my perception as I was in middle school at the time, but I felt like news coverage after Columbine was soooo focused on the gunmen. So hopefully we've made some progress there as a society.

I know they have to report it. But then they spend weeks digging up everything just to get a new story, recent development, new headline. Just talk about the victims, not the shooter.
I disagree. People are left asking why-they want to know why someone would do something like that. Where did did it come from, how can I prevent it, what happened to the criminal, is he out on the street, how far are they in the process of convicting, what can we do as a society to prevent this from happening again.... Reporting unpleasant events requires focus on unpleasant people and their actions.

I liked the idea that the names of the shooters not be used,
they just be referred to as the alleged so & so shooter.

And not use their pictures.
