Jake-Obe

That's what the first baby to be born at my hospital this year was named.

What. The. Fluck?

Re: Jake-Obe

  • I'm curious as to the pronunciation....

Our hospital recently had a Winston DW. Yep. Winston as in NASCAR, DW as in Darrell Waltrip.

  • My son will probably be Jake Ody...I guess if I stuck a dash in it, I could call him something unique. But guess I will stick with Jake. Ody is pronounced Audie and is my middle name....

  • My cousin is Jacoby which is how I would probably announce the name in the OP but that spelling of it is horrid

    See? That actually makes sense.

Still majorly side-eyeing Jake-Obe. The hyphen really makes me think they went for a youneek spelling for Jacob (or Jacoby?) vs a combination of the names Jake and Obe.

This was my first thought as well. I didn't even know "Obe" is a name on it's own, so that would never have occured to me.

Ha Ha I didn't either - I Googled it. It's short for Obadiah and the last time it made the top 1000 name list was between 1880 and 1890 (no, this isn't a typo, I really mean EIGHTEEN 80), when it ranked at something like 940.

Lol, see, if it had been Obadiah/Obediah, I probably would have at least recognized it as a name. "Obe" on its own looks like a misspelling of "Abe" to me. :)

  • I bet the dad pushed for it so he could call him Jake-Obe Wan Kinobi... it's what my H would do.

He had me convinced to name DS William Ryker, until he confessed it was from Star Trek.  And he wanted to name him that so he could call him #1. (DS's name is Landon Ryker)

Now he's pushing for Charles Xavier for this one.  Thank goodness I know about Xmen.  I told him there is no way I'm letting him name our kids #1 and The Professor.

LOL! I thought the "Obe" sounded vaguely movie-like, but couldn't place which movie, so I didn't mention it. Too funny though! :)

I'm sorry, but your husband gets a thumbs up in my book for trying. There are FAR worse characters to want to name your child after imo ;)
