Secondary IF

Scar Tissue in between ...

ok just curious if anyone else has had this situation.

OBGYN stated that the reason for 2IF could be a piece of scar tissue acting like a wall in between my ovary and tube.  He said an HSG wouldn't pick it up since it's not in or on tube so the dye would flow free out of tube.

RE doesn't think that's the issue but after 'passing' tests now I am wondering.

Cliff notes of past:  2 surgeries in 1 year both through same entrance.  Oopharectomy and C-section.

anyone else get diagnosed with this?  i know only way to see is a LAP.

Re: Scar Tissue in between ...

  • I don't know if you are talking about the same thing, but my right before my most recent FET, my RE told me he just learned about C-section scarring or Isthmocele.  He said that a new study showed that this c-section scarring creates some sort of pouch that could collect blood from AF.  This blood could prevent embryos from fertilizing or implanting.  He said a simple procedure to close up this gap has solved the IF issue for some of his patients.  He said that one even conceived naturally a few months after the correction.  He knows that I had a c-section with DS and he showed me this "pouch" on the u/s when he was checking my lining.  I looked it up online and yup, there was the study and the pouch that looked like the one I saw on my u/s. I opted not to go through with the procedure though.  I had enough procedures for one year and I just wanted to be done with IVF by the end of 2012.
2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

I had two hysteroscopies for polyp removals and my RE didn't notice it until he was looking for it and saw it in the u/s. Also it is a new study so not sure if all RE are aware or believe it.

  • ***TICKER WARNING***

I used to be on here a while back and check it every so often, so I hope you don't mind. :)

I've had 2 LAPs and each time I had a huge amount of scar tissue. The last one I had right before I got pregnant, both my ovaries were covered in scar tissue and trapped behind my uterus, and the only way my doc could see it was during my surgery. He said every time I ovulated the egg just stuck right to the scar tissue and never even reached the tube. So this is very very possible. I had severe endo, so that's what caused my scar tissue. Hope this helps you. :)
