I thought I'd ask for some feedback - I met with the RE and I kind of felt like an idiot for going. He said I have actually only been pregnant once as my miscarriages were not seen on an ultrasound. I understand they weren't clinical but I felt very judged like I was making it up. He also seemed offended that I wanted RPL testing, he told me I do not have RPL as that is for women that have had miscarriages. I told him that is what my OB/GYN called it and she told me I needed RPL testing.
Anyway after that rough start, he had me do blood tests for basic IF, RPL and PCOS as well as an ultrasound. He will also get SA from DH. Then he said if everything comes back normal, which he thinks it will, he wants to do IUI with Clomid. I guess I don't understand how we went from me basically having no reason to be there to doing IUI?
Have you guys had similar experiences? DH was not with me but thinks I may have taken RE too personally as I have had really awful doctor experiences in the past. Were you ladies put straight to IUI or is Clomid with monitoring and TTC on your own more typical?
Re: RE appointment yesterday
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. No RE should make you feel that way, and you may want to consider finding one who is a better fit if this continues. IF treatment is a very stressful, emotional process, and you need all the support you can get.
My situation was different than yours in that, as far as I know, I was never able to get pregnant, so my testing did include an HSG to check my tubes, which was in fact the problem. I'm not sure if you doctor isn't ordering it because you have gotten pregnant on your own, but it's something worth asking. At the very least you might want to get a saline sonohistogram to see if you have anything adhered to your uterine lining, such as polyps.
I'm sure others can provide some additional info, but that's what I can offer from my experience.
IVF #1: 9/11: ER: 12R, 11M, 10F, No Frosties; 5dt: 2 blasts, 1 morula; DD born 6/3/12
IVF #2: 11/12-12/12: ER: 20R, 20M, 16F, 4 Frosties; 5dt: 3 blasts, DS born 8/9/13
I had the blood taken yesterday, I guess the basic IF testing will have results today, everything else will be 3 weeks. I forgot to mention I am scheduling an HSG once CD 1 rolls around. I'm not sure then if next cycle would be IUI or more likely the one after since he'll have to look at the results.
Good luck on your first cycle, I hope everything goes well!
I totally forgot to mention, I am getting the HSG I just have to wait to schedule until CD1.
Thank you for the input, I agree I may need to find a better fit. I'll wait for the test results and decide from there whether to stay with this RE. We are incredibly blessed to live in an area with 3 RE offices within a reasonable distance so at least I have the option of switching.
in our experience, we have yet to be diagnosed with something. initially DX was IRPCOS but now he is leaning to just 'bad timing'.
we started 3 rounds of clomid and on 3rd round did IUI. they tried to suggest IUI on second but we said no...we are on first round femara now and waiting to see if its working.
good luck to you and if a doctor doesn't make you feel comfortable then def look for someone else. this process, like others have said, can be very stressful so it's best to find someone you like.
good luck to you!

Find a new RE who is your cheerleader.
Sorry you had such a bad experience. I agree that your RE should help you find a positive outlook; otherwise why would you go through treatment? Finding the right fit is important. You need to trust this person and feel that they are listening to you and are working *with* you.
For DS we tried on our own for a year, worked with the OB for 3 months, and then finally went to the RE. After 3 months of Clomid + TI + metformin (I have PCOS) we had a healthy and easy pregnancy. This time around I was pregnant after 3 months, but lost the baby at 9 weeks. 3 more cycles and we aren't pregnant so we are now moving onto IUI.
I think how quickly you move to IUI has to do with your diagnosis, your comfort level, and how best your doctor thinks you will respond.
I'd call one of the other 2 REs and see if you have better luck. No matter who you choose you can still use the results of the testing your current RE is performing.
Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!
