June 2011 Moms

Where would you go?

If you had 6 days off in mid-February and about $2000 to spend, where would you go? We are trying to plan a trip for our 5 year wedding anniversary next month and can't figure out where to go! DD will be coming with us, so it has to be somewhere that will have toddler activities as well. I am having a hard time coming up with ideas because many locations that I've thought of cost about $500/person to fly to!

Oops - I should mention that we live in WA State if that makes any difference.

Re: Where would you go?

  • Well, it looks like we may have found a good spot! San Diego!! It's sunny and warm there and we could use a little sunshine right now. :) If you live there or have been, please share any ideas if you have any "must see" attractions!

  • La Jolla is a cute little town that's not too far, if you'll have a car. The zoo there is amazing too. I was there years ago to see my brother graduate boot camp, so it's a little foggy, but Disney is not terribly far either, I believe. Have fun!
  • Hi! Where did you end up moving in WA again? Regardless, I know we're both living under the same gloomy skies right now.

I was going to also suggest San Diego. My BIL lives there now and always talks about sunshine and warm weather. He knows how much I *love* this constant grey. Brat.

SIL works for Disney so she suggests that, San Diego zoo is also another.

Have fun planning! We're also going somewhere warm end of Feb! We can all use a break from this.

  • Lego Land

    Sea World

The Zoo & Wild Animal Park

Balboa Park (where the zoo is located) has lots of fun museums and is just a nice park to walk around and enjoy the nice weather

Once when I was young my dad rented a boat and we took it out for a few hours and that was a great time.

I love San Diego and miss being able to take day trips there.

  • We just vacationed in San Diego.  It was a really fun trip for DD at this age!  We got the 7 day, 3 park pass (because it cost the same as 1 day at Sea World and 1 day at the zoo).  DD is not a sleep on the go kid so we made her skip nap every other day (Sea World days for sure as their hours are shorter right now).  We ended up going to the zoo 3 times, wild animal park once and Sea World twice.  We used DD's stroller at Sea World but a backpack carrier at the zoo because it is fairly hilly (animal park too).  Sea World has a little Sesame Street area and DD loved meeting Elmo and going on the little rides.  If you want to ride the train at balboa Park (outside zoo) check operating days/hours.  It was only running Saturdays when we were there.

We were also visiting friends so we didn't do too much else.  We always enjoy visiting Hotel del Coronado and if you like fancy hot dogs Delux Dogs is really good.  My other favorite place we ate in SD was Smashburger- definitely try the smashfries.  We didn't eat anything too fancy- mostly quick or at friends' houses.

I was going to suggest this. If you are taking LO and don't mind some kid adventures there is Sea World, Lego Land, The San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, and of course Disney Land not far away.

I haven't experienced much of the adult life, but the Hotel Del Coronado is popular, and there are things to do there even if you aren't staying there.

We are renting a place in Issaquah. We weren't sure how we'd handle the winters here, being from FL and all, so we we figured renting would be the best bet for us! I sure do miss the sunshine but what's actually been the hardest is how far away we are from our families. It's such a long (and expensive) flight to FL.

Thanks everyone for the ideas about things to do/see! I just bought our plane tickets today and am looking forward to researching fun stuff to do. :)

Aww...I can imagine how sad being away from people you know must be. :(

What do you think of the cold so far? At least it's been pretty bright. I really don't mind the cold as long as the sun is out. :)
