f/u vent on sicknes... "it's just allergies..."

yeah right! I am so sick of hearing "it is just allergies/sinuses" when it is clear someone has a cold but they don't want me to be worried.  I have had a lifetime of allergy and sinus trouble including a surgery and possibly another in the future and I know what allergies and sinus issues look like. And sinus infections ARE contagious I believe.  (I'm not a nurse or doctor but I'm almost sure they are). My MIL says that every time someone sneezes like if I don't know it is a cold my LO cannot get sick. 

 Anyone else's family say this? It is the dead of winter and the peak of flu season and it is odd that none of these people ever had allergies or sinus issues before this winter... hmmmmm

Sinus infections aren't contagious, but I don't let anyone come see DD if they are sick in anyway. Just because they think its sinuses or allergies doesn't mean its not the start of a cold and its just not worth the risk of them turning up with a cold and passing it along because they thought it was allergies.

Yep, hate it. Also hate visitors that say their cough/sniffles just started that morning (as if that makes me feel better that it JUST started). Well, you should have stayed home then!!!!

Good to know about sinus infections. I have had a million in my day and never really paid attention. I just stayed away from people!


I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one that has this issue I thought I was being over sensitive!

I hear you, although I actually have pregnancy rhinitis (when I'm PG my nose is permanently stuffed and I sound like I have cold but there's no runny nose, just can't breathe.) When I went on our L&D tour I was very self conscious and worried that people would think I was wandering around L&D with a cold.

However, when I visited my BFFs baby in the NICU I INSISTED on wearing a mask and not touching the baby, even though I knew I was healthy and BFF offered for me to get closer, so I'm not someone who would ever risk a baby's health.

Totally agree. In the same vein, "man, my coworkers are dropping like flies this week" as he reaches for the baby did not fly well in my house this evening. Lol. You aren't being overprotective. People just don't get it unless they've had a preemie.
