High-Risk Pregnancy

What should I expect at my first MFM appointment?

I will be 9 weeks at my first maternal fetal specialists appointment.  My daughter was born 4 weeks early due to pre-term labor with contractions.  My ob said that I will start Progesterone shots at 16 weeks with a weekly cervical check.  What should I expect at my first MFM appointment?  Do they just talk or will they do an ultrasound to hear the babies heart beat?

  • I've been high risk with MFM my whole pregnancy (34ks 6days) but not for any reasons similar to yours. I'm not sure how they differ but my first one was also 9 weeks and they just did and ultrasound and we discussed why I was high risk, what to do to best avoid complications, and decided how often I should come in. Just a planning visit really.

  • My MFM always does a detailed ultrasound. At first we discussed what to do to prevent PTL and risks and odds. I was told a cerclage was the best thing for me and we discussed the17p shots. Ask lots of questions.
  • I had DS1 at 36 wks PPROM.  Last pg I was AMA as well. When I went to MFM we met with the genetics counselor, then had an utrasound, then went to the MFM's office talked about p17, and how this pg would differ from my last (low risk pg).

  • Thank yall! I am anxious to see my sweet baby on ultrasound. My first trimester screen isnt scheduled until February 11th! But I see my MFM on the 25th.  Hoping they want to do an ultrasound :):)
  • They probably. I think mine likes to do them.  I think.
