help with new DSM criteria please

I'm new to all this so pls bear with me!  We are awaiting an eval with a dev pedi at the local children's hospital.

My child's symptoms are there for something but they are mild and she presents most times as "typical".  But i am fully expecting a dx of some sort when we have the eval because, like i said...there are symptoms.

Two questions - will it be ASD or nothing?  i mean, she would not get an aspbergers or ppd-nos dx now because of the new dsm criteria.  Is this correct?   And is this good or bad?   because i was thinking (and i could be totally wrong) that she was heading towards Aspbergers or PPD-nos.

Also, she sometimes presents like SPD.  Is it true that this is not a "recognized" dx and she wouldnt qualify for services??

Thank you all so very much in advance!

Re: help with new DSM criteria please

  • Auntie - thanks so much!

    I keep saying - - "I swear, I don't even have my rose-colored mommygoggles on!"

Ha, ha, maybe I do.  But seriously, I guess I have know two autistic children thru playgroups/mutual friends.   I fully know that no two autistic children are alike, but my child sits down for storytimes, doesnt have tantrums/meldowns, sociable with family, adults, neighborhood kids, looks me in the eye, no twirling, spinning, etc - all things that the other women talk about.  One of them can't take her son in public as they have left too many places in an ambulance because the child could not be controlled.  The other has to lock her son in his room becaue he gets so violent.  He still eats babyfood and wears diapers at 4.  To me, that all seems far more extreme than my daughter.  That's why I thought perhaps she might just be on the milder end of the spectrum.

But as I said, I am so new to this, I am still learning!!!!
