IUI timing is really off

I'm kind of annoyed with my RE's office - mostly because when I showed up for my Iui yesterday a nurse did it that i had never seen before and I never even saw my dr. But i also think they timing of my iui's is really off - I was triggered on Monday am and then had my iui 24 hours later but i woke up at 5 am today with bad ovulation pains so it looks like we missed it.

Re: IUI timing is really off

  • I've not gone through the IUI process but my RE tells us that we need to bd prior to trigger not waiting to trigger. He said it is best for the sperm to be waiting for the egg since sperm has a longer life than eggs do. So you should still be fine... Best of luck!

  • We always have IUI 24 hours after trigger. I think the trigger has caused me to ovulate quicker because I too noticed ovulation pain before the IUI.

  • I do know a lot of RE's that do the 24 hour thing....but I wonder if that is for people that can BD to get the job done.

We use donor sperm so we have to do an IUI. My RE always tells me to trigger 36 hours before the IUI...I have got pregnant twice triggering 30 hours before.

This last time however I think I would have been better to do the 36 instead of 30...I felt major 'O' pains around 40 hours after my trigger and I think it was just late enough that the sperm were no longer viable. Donor sperm only last 10-12 hours, and my sample was full of fast swimmers so I wonder if they swam right on by before the eggs got released.
