Q re: preparing for napping at daycare

I'll go back to work in about a month, and right now, my DS takes all his naps in his swing.  They typically have the kids nap in a crib at daycare (but they'll rock them to sleep as needed, etc.).  Did anyone have this situation or something similar, and if so, did you train your child to nap in his/her crib prior to starting daycare?  If so, how?  Thanks!

  • Yes, she would only nap in the carrier.  I didn't do anything.  I tried for a bit but figured they were used to dealing with babies like that and sure enough, it wasn't an issue at all.  She napped just dandy in the crib at school.  Babies tend to adjust to their environment so chances are he'll do just fine.

  • there's no need to "train" them.  dd always napped in my arms and like u, i was worried about her having to nap in the crib at daycare.  our first day of "training" was a disaster.  her crying broke my heart.  we immediately reverted back to her napping in my arms.  sure enough, at daycare, she napped in her crib just fine.  they do learn to adjust.
  • I didn't train DD - she would only nap in her car seat or her swing at home.  We told daycare they could put her in the swing if they had to.   But she napped in her crib at daycare from the start with no issues.   She is now 5.5 months old, and still fights napping in the crib at home, but not at daycare!
  • I'm so relieved to hear this -- thank you!

  • One of the kids in my DD's child care room only naps in a swing.  It's no big deal.  They just put him in the swing to sleep.  He looks so cute in it, too.  We gave them our DD'd vibrating bouncer when she first started.  She did really well swaddled and in the bouncer ... so they used it for a few weeks until she used the crib exclusively.  Go with what works for your baby and expect child care to do the same.
