when is flu shot with booster effective?

Does anyone know if the flu shot for LOs is effective at all before they get the booster shot?  LO got the flu shot on 12/12 but can't get the booster shot until 1/12.  I'm just wondering if he is at all protected right now, or if the vaccine doesn't provide any protection until he also gets the booster shot.

???

  • He's still partially protected.

This. Our ped told us that it's not really two different shots, but rather two 1/2 doses. So LO will be partially protected until they get the rest of the dose. Then they will obviously be protected against the specific strains that the vaccine is for.

  • OK- Thanks ladies
  • The ladies are right. DS had 1/2 of the shot last month and a week later, DH came down with the flu he went to the dr and had a positive test. DS and I never came down with it. I had my shot and bf so I think that helped boost his immunity.
