Babies: 6 - 9 Months

More sleep problems...

My son has never been a sleep 12 hours straight type of baby.  But there around 5-6 month mark we did get a few nights where he would sleep 730 to 630.  Then the majority of the time he would wake around 4am for a bottle and go back down.  He has been sick for the last 3 weeks.  I thought his sleep was bad.  Getting up 2-3 times and sometimes not being able to go back down without a bottle.  Enter the antibiotics that we started 2 days ago.

These last two nights have been awful.  He is very hard to put down, waking every 30 min or so for 2 hours.  Then finally is out for a bit.  Then wakes up anywhere between 11-1 for a feeding.  No problem.

At 3am like clockwork both nights he wakes up screaming and has been up until 5 am when he finally passes out from exhaustion.  We try rocking him, feeding him, changing him, just letting him play with toys in his crib, laying him down repeatedly.  But he just gets up stands at the crib and screams.  When we pick him up and then reaches for his crib.  So i know that he is tired.  I honestly don't know what to do.  I so badly want to just call off work, take him to the babysitters and sleep.  My husband and I are so tired and we are hoping that this stops soon.  Because 10 days of this antibiotic are going to last forever!

Re: More sleep problems...

  • Unfortunately, when they're sick, all bets are off. DS has been STTN since he was 6 months old, but with his cold last week, he was up 1-2 times a night. We sleep on the couch with him, honestly, as it is the only way for us and DS to get any rest. You do what you have to do when they are sick. As soon as he started feeling better, he started STTN again. Good luck.

  • My LO had an ear infection and I'd say by the 3rd night she was sleeping a lot better and not waking up and screaming anymore.  It'll get better.  When I was sick my husband took LO to the sitter so I could sleep.  You gotta do what you gotta do some times!
