We are currently living in Germany and I came across this list the other day and just thought it was interesting to see what names are similar in popularity compared to the US and also some that may not be as common.

Re: Top 25 B/G names in Germany

I really like the boys list.
Thanks for sharing.
Wonder how you pronounce Leonie? Le-oh-knee? Lee-knee?
LOVE the boys' list. Oddly enough, most of my guilty pleasure boy names that I can't use because DH hates them are on this list. Must be because I'm of German descent and DH isn't! Leon is one of my all time favorites.
I am not sure. As a side note though, the Germans do not pronounce any of the names on the list as they are pronounced in the US. This may be obvious to some but it really throws me for a loop sometimes when we meet someone new and I am trying to figure out what their name is in English. We live in an older part of our village and most of our neighbors do not speak any English. They adore our boys though and always talking to us (we are slowly learning German) and giving them treats. When they call our boys by their names they sound nothing like how I pronounce them.

In German, Leonie is pronounced LAY-oh-nee. I think it's quite pretty in German but sadly less so in English.
I have mentioned that my husband is German, and we are naming our son Daniel. In German, it is spelled the same, but pronounced DAHN-yell. We needed a name that was quite similar in both the US and Germany.
