Is it safe?

I'm 27 weeks and have the worst sinuses lately. Is it safe to use Vicks Vapor Rub while preggo?

Re: Is it safe?

  • I don't know the answer to this... but I remember someone posting about it a while ago and all the answers were 50/50 some had been using it and others swear against it.

I know that cough drops are safe so maybe one of them will help?  Sorry not much help but I noticed everyone was reading and not responding so I thought I would share what I head read previously.

I hope you feel better!  Being sick is no fun especially when pregnant!

  • I have been using it however I was told by a doctor that eucalyptus *can* cause contractions and eucalyptus is the first ingredient listed. My question to the doctor was more about cough drops and he suggested to not use them. But since I'm not ingesting the rub, I have deemed it ok for me. I will probably call the dr tomorrow and ask specifically about the rub.

  • When I was sick earlier in my pregnancy, I got a list of approved medications from my doctor. They said that both the vapor rub and the tablets that you can put in a humidifier were safe. It's important to remember however that even the medications that most doctors say that you can use during pregnancy aren't guaranteed to be 100% safe. because there just isn't enough research to be totally conclusive. My doctor also told me to use them when the benefits outweigh the risk.
