This is how it goes for my LO...
1st feeding (6-7 am) - milk...well formula
2nd feeding - oatmeal or rice cereal followed by a bottle
3rd feeding - milk
4th feeding - veggie (if he only eats 2 oz then I follow with milk; if he does 4 oz then I give water)
5th feeding - milk
Should I be doing more meals and less milk? Or is this okay? He is 6 months old. I feel like I don't know what I'm doing with regards to feeding my baby!!
Re: Please share your feeding schedule
My son is 8 months old, and I also feel like we have no idea what we are doing in regards to feeding. We don't really have a schedule, and we just feed him when we think he is hungry. We started on demand feeding when I was breastfeeding, and have just kept doing it that way I guess. He gets a 6 oz formula bottle in the morning, and then sometimes fruit baby food. He then gets at least 2 more 6 oz bottles throughout the day. Sometimes I give him some baby food at lunch time, but we aren't really consistent with it. He does always eat some sort of food with us at dinner time, whether it's baby food or something that we are eating. He also occasionally gets snacks like puffs, mum mums, or yogurt drops, etc during the day. After dinner he gets a 6 or 8 oz bottle before bed.
I'm not really sure when we will get more consistent with his solid foods, I just figure it will happen naturally. Since at this age it's really more for practice than anything else I wouldn't worry about it too much, I think you will eventually figure out what works best for your family.
Most of LO's nutrition should still be coming from formula or breastmilk before the age of one! So what we have been doing is - times vary of course
AM Bottle - usually around 8:00
2oz of fruit plus 1 oz of oatmeal 30 minutes after he finishes his morning bottle
Afternoon bottle - Usually around 11:30
Afternoon bottle - Usually around 3:30ish
2 oz of veggie or fruit plus 2 oz of oatmeal at 5:30 (Sometimes he'll take an ounce or two after this)
Bedtime bottle - Usually around 7:30
I recently asked when you should introduce a 3rd meal and was told not until around 9 months or so. So I plan on waiting for that. I still want to make sure he is getting most nutrients from his formula and I'm having fun introducing new solids!

8 months old:
wake up at 630, 3 oz fruit mixed with about 2 oz oatmeal
4 oz bottle around 830
3 oz fruit and 2 oz bottle around noon
3-4 oz vegetable and 2 oz bottle for dinner at 5
4-5 oz bottle before bedtime routine at 7 (bedtime is at 8)
We had little man's 6 month well check yesterday, and the office gave us an awesome feeding chart based on age...it said from 6-9 months they should get 24-32 oz of breast milk/formula per day (my understanding was they'd need the lower end for b.m. and the higher end for f.), and then whatever fruits/veggies you want to give. It recommended feeding breast milk/formula first and then doing fruit/veggies. Doctor said they're getting all of their nutrition from the breast/bottle until one year and to look at food as fun and a teaching thing until one year.
At 6 months we...
6:30: nurse
9:30 nurse or bottle (depending if I'm at work or home) /1-2 oz of fruit or veggie
12:30 nurse/bottle
3:30 nurse/bottle
5:30 nurse
7 nurse / 1-2 oz fruit or veggie
**I have to nurse a little more often in the evenings because I don't produce a ton of milk...I want to make sure he's getting enough
)
Our LO is 6 1/2 months so we do:
730ish: 5-6oz bottle
11 bottle and 2 tbsp rice cereal and a fruit or veggies
2 bottle
430-5 5-6 oz bottle then rice ceral and fruit or veggie
7ish (right before sleep) 6 oz bottle w/ rice cereal in it (has severe reflux)
I always do a bottle right before solids because she NEEDS to have her bottle whereas the solids are quite as important yet. So I want to make sure she finishes that.
