bloody show

Today I had a dr. appt. he did an exam and after when he was taking his glove off he said see the blood, that's normal. i said oh so my spotting on saturday was normal? he said yes, it's the bloody show. 

So I've had some dark red/brown blood. Just wondering how long it lasts for? how long after you had yours did you go into labor? i'm 40w.2d. waiting patiently for baby's arrival!  

also what did yours look like? i've been going potty frequently to check on it, and when i just went it almost looked like when you have your period, like red clot looking things, that were long.. i'll assume it's normal since I just had my exam.

he told me that if it looks like a period, flows heavy like that, to call. so i was just curious as to what others have experienced as their bloody show.

You will probably go any time now. I lost my mp at 39 weeks, 3 days. Bloody show (similiar to what you describe, almost like a period) at 40 wks, 1 day, contractions started a couple hours after that and baby was born the next day (which was about 10 hours later).  I didn't have an exam around this time though.

Are you having contractions?

Well (with my first pregnancy)...mine must have been really different because right after I had my "bloody show," my water broke.  (Or maybe my water broke which caused my bloody show, not really sure which caused what.)  The whole thing was actually very funny b/c I'm describing this to my husband before I called the doctor, which he calmly responds, "it's just your bloody show honey..."  (can you tell I took him to birthing classes? lol)  I could tell it was my water breaking b/c it just kept leaking uncontrollably...I called my doctor and he confirmed that what I was describing was my water breaking.  I would imagine that with you being that far along that it will be soon for you!!

Pretty sure I lost my mucus plug saturday. It was coming out in bits. & still has been but not as bad as it was saturday. so I was 39w6d then.

I've been more crampy then anything this past week. I haven't felt as many contractions. I had 3 while I was doing my NST today which was about 45mins if that.  If I am having some, I'm not really noticing them.

Also today I was still 3 cm...I was 3cm last week as well.  so no progress.

The same thing happened to me yesterday after my Dr. checked me but I havent really had any contractions and the bleeding has stopped.

 Sorry for the TMI everyone...but to answer the question...it was bloody at first...then it started to gradually turn clear as the blood flushed out.  Hope that helps.  Looking back though, it happened very fast for me....it had to be within minutes later and it was clear. And of course, b/c my water broke, I had to go to the hospital (and then get induced as I didn't even go into labor....no contractions or anything).  I was surprised too b/c no one in my family had their water break and I was only 39 weeks and 2 days and everyone in my family had to be induced after 40 weeks!!  It was very surprising but very exciting

Enjoy your little girl, I have a daughter and she is AMAZING.  We can't wait to find out about this little one

Don't get your hopes up on this. EVERYONE told me I'd go into labor within 24 hours after losing my plug no doubt it was the mucus plug it was a huge glob of bloody snot and that was 3 days ago. Still an inside Bebe, unfortunately.

I had my bloody show three days ago as well, and no labor progression yet. I'm still crampy, feel a lot of weight in my pelvis, and have contractions every 7-8 minutes, but nothing increasing or excessively painful. The Birth Book (Sears & Sears) said that the bloody show can precede labor by as much as two weeks, in some cases. I guess we just have to be patient.

Just checking bc all morning I had what almost looked like a period. Pretty gross. I'm assuming all these chunks of mucus is normal?

then for awhile it stopped.

Then I had this one TMI gross huge mucus come out, with blood. and now it's stopped. ...I hope.

Just wanted to make sure it was 'normal' that it lasted almost all day.

I'm so glad i read this thread. I too had alot dark red/brown mucus last Saturday. No cramping involved except for a little bit. I was at a wedding and since I didn't feel cramping and bright red blood or water breaking I didn't go to the doctor. From what I'm reading now it sounds like a bloody show. I'm only 33 wks, so that kinda freaks me out now. The bleeding was just that one time deal and I didn't have much after. Altho I did get those long strands of blood when I would pee for the next two days. I don't have any cramping and baby has been moving around alot since then. I've for months always felt her low on me so that is continuing. I have my next OB appnt on Monday morning, so in 4 days. Should I call my doctor or am I overreacting since besides that one time last Saturday I haven't had an issue?
