Re: Tips and Tricks Tuesdays Anybody

  • D loves bath time, she would be happy if she could spend all day there. Lately she has been crying and arching her back when I take her out to wrap her in her towel. So I have been letting the water drain out first, and we tell the water "bye-bye" and we will see you tomorrow. This has cut out the fuss, since I'm not actually removing her from the water which she loves so much.

Also do get her in her PJs is a task. She is such a wiggle worm, and wants to crawl and run away while I am trying to lotion her up. D loves watching videos of her, so lately I have been handing her my phone with a video playing of her walking or whatever I have in there, and she will lay still for a good 5 min.

That's all I have this week.. I look forward to reading your tricks!

  • My stellar tip from my day with two really whiny babies yesterday - when you just can't take it anymore stick them in the play yard and shut yourself in the bathroom for 10 minutes Smile  I will never understand why when they can see me they whine constantly but as soon as I'm unavailable to them they'll play happily.

  • Great idea!.... I remember a lot of us mentioning a while ago that our babies hated having their faces wiped. DS does too, but my husband figured out that if he makes funny noises with each wipe (usually "meep"), he gets slightly less irritated with it.

someecards.com - Honey, can you pick up Pizza? I've been busy pinning nutritious recipes for our family all day.
  • I've been giving Ryan a whole peeled carrot to chew on in his highchair and I get the dishwasher loaded or unloaded without him "helping" me.

  • The puree pouches, the ones that they can just suck and get the purees out of, are great!  I never thought I'd just give him the pouch and let him suck on it, but he loves it!!!  I don't always have a balanced meal cooked so I still give him purees so that he's getting all the veggies he needs in a day.  He won't let me feed him anymore, so these pouches are great because they're still a novelty to him.  I thought he'd make a terrible mess, but he actually does really good.

Bath time is always a good thing for us!  If I ask him if he wants to take a bath he takes off, full force, crawling to the bathroom.  If he's grumpy, not feeling good, or just bored with whatever is going on, bath time buys a few minutes 'til it's bed time.  I've been looking for new bath toys, this was the best $4 I've ever spent, he's highly amused...https://www.walmart.com/ip/Garanimals-Water-Bug-Bath-Toys/19226339

  • When Allison gets fussy in her high chair we play peek-a-boo by crouching down and popping up.  She loves it.

Also, because she is a pacifier baby, if she isn't eating and I know she hasn't had enough I give her the pacifier and she will pop it in between bites.  Not a great habit but it gets us through a container of yogurt and a few chicken nuggets.

  • For giving medicine:

Ben fights like a wild animal when you try and put a dropper in his mouth and will smack a spoon right out of your hand. The kid LOVES theme songs and is easily mesmerized by TV. So, here is the trick: I put him in his high chair in the living room, face him towards the television, and start one of his favorite shows. He gets so sucked in by the theme song and the show that I can sit next to him and squeeze the meds bit by bit into his cheek and make sure he swallows. No squirming, no screaming, and I don't even have to hold his arms/hands. I hope this works for others because holy crap is it about 1000000000x easier to give him his meds (we are on day 5 of 10 days of antibiotics - 20 doses!).

  • For changing clothes diapers on baby that won't cooperate, I do it while he stands.
Been doing this for about a month or more now.

  • Another diaper change tip - she will not sit still on the changing table, she insists on rolling over.  I keep a roll of paper towels in her room to wipe my hand off after putting on the A+D.  If I give her the paper towel roll to play with while changing the diaper, it is usually enough to keep her distracted and on her back.

That's a good idea. I also give her the AD tube or any other cream container I have available. If its off limits, it's better!
