I  was just reading the Mohawk post and thinking how I have mo problem with it. Then I got to thinking what if he wanted a mullet.  No way in hell would I be seen in public with it.

Mullets had an ironic trendy phase here a few years ago. I'd let Ike have one but I would tease him. A loving motherly tease not a bullying tease. He could have had a curl mullet but I got them cut off.

Ikes hair does grow wings around the ears at a certain length and could pass for hockey hair if I put an appropriate hat on him. A Yoda toque doesn't quite do it. He just looka cute and shaggy

I just find it funny (also like 4 glasses of wine into my night) that my hatred of mohawks, flat tops, mullets, rat tails, piercings and tattoos (On MY children) was such a topic today. Its just cuh-razy.

I'm sorry (genuinely) that you felt like I called your kid trashy. I bet he looked just darling. Generally when you see kids (in my area) with mohawks there are other "trashy" factors at play. (wife beaters, chains, baggy pants)

I get that. Luckily I'm a hair stylist and wouldn't be damaging the crap outof my kids hair. I know what I'm doing. However, it's just buzzed, not shaved. We use a 1/2 guard on DH to get his mohawk.

$5 says sporting event or he plays lacrosse. There are a crapload of boys just like blue mohawk kid around here that play lacrosse and their hair all looks like that in tons of colors. I'm kind of immune to it now cause they all do it.

I think the problem is that a lot of us don't see hair styles or clothes as trashy. So what if the kid has a wife beater or chains? It's not your style, which is fine. It's not my style either. But I wouldn't call it trashy.

And while I think you do have a point that the tattoo some 18 year olds would want isn't what they'd want at 30, hair styles, clothes, and piercings are much less permanent. It's not trashy or bad to let a kid mess with his or her hair.
