Pre-e official

I've received an official pre-eclampsia diagnosis due to high BP, elevated proteins, and ocular migraines.

Mine isn't as terrible as a lot of diagnoses. My liver is doing great and there are no concerns there - but there are still no cures other than delivery. I've been put on bedrest and told to stop working.

Per the doc, she wants me delivering around 37w - so we are now expecting the boys around the week of the 21st. She didn't sound very confident that I'd make it that far, but she did say that's as far as we're going to go at most. The NST monitoring today showed that my contractions are very steady, only a few minutes between, and I'm dilated to 1cm, so we'll see what happens.

Now I'm just pissed off that they've told me I have to stop working. It's seriously stressing me out. I have a damned desk job. I spend most of my work day doing spreadsheets and lurking here and on facebook. Total bullshit.

Re: Pre-e official

  • I'm sorry you have Pree but I'm glad they made you stop working. Even the stress of driving to your desk job and sitting all day can be very bad. In our two months in the NICU we saw many Pree moms and babies with very serious problems. Not to scare you but it can get serious very very quickly. Please take it easy.

  • Ugh I'm sorry that sucks but you are 35 weeks, that's a great milestone!  My sister who had twin girls a few months ago had a similar situation at the end of her pregnancy too.  Started having high BP around 34 weeks.  They watched her very closely and eventually made the decision to deliver at 36 weeks.  Her girls did wonderful and needed no NICU.  She did have to be on Mag after delivery to get her BP down but otherwise she had no further issues once they were born.  I know bed resting sucks but you've come so far and it's relatively just a blip in time.  Could be the difference in NICU babies or coming home with you babies.  Keep your head up, you're doing great!
  • Sorry about the pre-e. I'm impressed you're even up for sitting at a desk all day at 35w with twins; I definitely found that very uncomfortable by the third tri! Hope things go smoothly for you from here.

  • Sorry about the pre e. I was labeled with it and put on bedrest at 30 wks. I've done good on bedrest until this week. BP is creeping up pretty high the past couple of days even with rest.

Good luck. We may end up having babies the same week!

  • My pre-e diagnosis landed me in the hospital at 32 weeks with the threat to deliver "any day now". I managed to hang on until 36 weeks, but that last week was hard.

    Hang in there mama!

  • I am sure it sucks...I was still working my desk job at 35 weeks while they watched me for pre-e with similar syptoms....I got taken out at 35 weeks 4 days and was induced at 36 weeks b/c full blown pre-e was setting in....I really think if I had gone out at 34-35 weeks I could have made it to 38 weeks... ps. I was lucky my 36 weekers needed no nicu time, but that isn't always the case. GL!
  • Sorry.  I was diagnosed at 28w and was on bed rest until I delivered at 34w.  I felt like it was unnecessary at first but then I realized that even just walking around my house a tiny bit raised my BP.  Lying still was the only thing that kept it down and even though I did nothing for 6 weeks, I still didn't make it past 34w.  In the end, you realize that the babies are the most important thing so just focus on cooking them and it will be over soon enough.  Honestly, I know it seems silly but bed rest really is the best thing for it.  Hang in there!
