question about GMD workhorses and an intro

Hey Ladies,

I am PG with #1 and have been lurking around here for a few weeks.  I've picked up so much info from you guys (thank you!!) and have started building my stash.  I'm already obsessed--hopefully I still will be once LO is here!  I think getting the hang of what is needed, but I have a question for the experts:

How necessary/useful are GMD workhorses?  Right now there's a sale on them and I don't want to miss out if they are a must-have, but if I can just use pre-folds and get the same results I'd rather just go that route and spend the money I'd save on some super cute prints.  What do the experts think?

The workhorses are great for night changes when you're half asleep lol but they aren't a must have. You can for sure get by with just the prefolds.

This. I much prefer my Workhorses over my GMD prefolds, because I'm lazy but they both work just as well and I like having a main stash of fitteds and a dozen prefolds as a back up. Got all of them on their seconds sale for a great deal! GL and Welcome!

I love them. I only got them in size Large for DD, so we didn't start using them til she was several months old. I bought some in newborn size because I think they'll do a much better job of keeping BF poop off of diaper covers. I also like that you can add some absorbency with doublers, which is a little harder to do with prefolds.

They're our favorite diaper. We loved them when DD was a newborn, and we love them now. I reach for those before our pockets and any of our other fitteds.

These were my favorite for the NB period, too.  They are easier than a prefold especially for dads and grandmas, and they do contain the poop better.  Highly recommend.
