Parenting after 35

Since it's slow - a BR post

What have your LO's been up to lately? Any milestones being met?

For DS1, being 3 has not been kind to him. My supersweet boy has had buckets full of attitude lately and it's not fun. Also, he stalled at counting to 12 about a year ago and now seems to like counting backward from 20 or 30, instead of forward from 12, just to eff with me.

DS2 is teething. Badly. The end.

Re: Since it's slow - a BR post

  • Oh and GT, BB and anyone else that's been bugging me to update my siggy, I did try for a few days a week or so ago but TB was broken. Hmph.
  • Stever, my 3 year old has a major 'tude too.   And he's now constantly referring to me at "Mamma Cow."   Gee, there's a blow to the ego.  :(

Potty training is back on the agenda now that the holidays are over.

DD has learned how to say "no" with a total attitude, meaning she is 2 going on 12. DS has finally managed to keep down solids yesterday, after 3 days of being sick. Just in time to have some of my  birthday cake.  As for a milestone, DS can reach over his head and touch his ear on the other side, which tells me he is ready to start school.

Go through the Nest.  That's what finally worked for me.

Other than having croup, DS is a talking machine.  He gets frustrated when I don't understand what he's saying and will keep repeating the word with such conviction!   Part of the problem is that he's also learning Spanish from the nanny, so sometimes he might be saying something in garbled Spanish.

He just turned 2 two weeks ago and is still in the 95%.  34lbs and 37.5".  My baby in a big boy's body!

  • Well...I was too much of a chickenshit to do the whole sleep training thing...but just this past week, I've been able to put her in her crib awake, and no more escalating meltdowns...she either plays or just conks out.  This makes me beyond happy.  And, of course, sad.

Ha, ha!  He may even be greater than 95%...I forget what the nurse said.  No matter.  He is really tall.  Still in some 2T, but wearing a lot of 3T too.  Even funnier was when the nurse pointed us towards the infant scale for his weigh-in.  Really?  I said, "I think he's too big for that scale!"  She said it was the last time.  Ummmm....not gonna work, lady.  I asked how high the scale went and she said 35 lbs.  We ended up at the kid scale instead!

Crikey, that IS big. DS1 was pretty big when he was younger and we had a few tearful weigh-ins on the big kid scale before he was ready for it. Although he's always tearful at the pedi, soooo...

Thatis awesome! DS1 is almost 3.5 and he won't always go to bed without a meltdown, so I'm jealous!

You have to delete siggy (keep notepad open and cp from there), save. Then put new siggy in, save again, and keep hitting save. It's been glitchy.
  • Nothing to report yet. No potty training, just potty mouth. I need to work on that.

Let me know how that works.  DS came home from daycare with a report of "holy crap!".  He also says, "oh, sugar" instead of using an expletive.  Kids are total sponges!

  • DD1was home from college for the holidays and just went back on Sunday.  That sucked.  I miss having her here terribly so it was nice to have her home those three weeks.  And over the weekend DD2 decided it was time to walk on her own.  She took a total of 5 steps at at time over the weekend and then at daycare yesterday took 20 in a row on her own.  So all last night she was walking in circles between DH and I.  By her birthday in a month she'll be walking all over the place.

I would take crap anyday over the f bomb. Oh, that's E btw. I guess she likes extra chores.
  • DS is just extremely active and it is sometimes hard for me to keep up with the little guy. He started walking just before he turned 13 mos and he has been off and running ever since. He is getting to be a ton more fun though. We started him in Kindermusik this last Monday just so we can have that time during the week devoted to family time. I can't think of any major milestones but it is obvious that he is definitely becoming a little boy and isn't really a baby anymore. This makes me a bit sad but I am also glad to have him be more interactive.

  • We've been having the sickies here.  G had HFM and then within three days developed croup.  He's finally starting to get a little better.  I, however, am losing it.  We've been shut-ins for way too many days.  Lol
