Success after IF

Update: Re- no heartbeat at 6 weeks

I posted almost 2 weeks ago about not having a heartbeat or seeing a fetal pole at 6 weeks (we were measuring behind by a few days as well).

We went in to today.  From my 2nd IUI (we did b2b's with injectibles)- I should be 7 weeks 5 days today.  I measured at 6 weeks, 1 day; heartbeat was found, but was only 75BPM.  Baby was moving and we could hear the heartbeat.

The yolk sac was not abnormally large, my progesterone is good...sigh.  We are again waiting to go in to now the OB in 2 weeks.

I want to remain hopeful- but it is really hard at this point.

Anyone have anything similar with IVF or IUI's?  (good and bad outcomes)

  • Seeing a heartbeat is a good sign. Is your doctor concerned? Hang in there mama. The waiting game is rough. Hoping they are off on when you actually conceived.

  • I'm sorry that I don't have a more hopeful story but my fourth pregnancy was similar to yours now and it ended in a miscarriage.  At six weeks there was no seen fetal pole, at seven weeks there was a baby but everything measured a week behind and the heartbeat was around 115.  At eight weeks things were still a week behind and the heart rate hadn't increased at all.  At ten weeks the heartbeat had stopped and I had a d&c two days later.

75 is a very low heart rate for as far along as you are but not having a large yolk sac is a good sign (mine was larger which is never a good thing).  Definitely hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I think I responded before and if not, I'm sorry, I meant to!  If I did, you can quit reading now. :)

We went in at 5.5 weeks for our first u/s after IVF.  The sac was there but measuring small. He told me it was 50/50.  Went back at 6.5 weeks and the sac was EMPTY (as in the tech searched for several minutes and could not find anything).  We went back at 7weeks 1 day to schedule a D&C and he could see a yolk sac and fetal pole but still wasn't hopeful (as I told him then, that was more than we'd seen a few days prior).  It wasn't until 8.5 weeks that we had a full heartbeat and a baby measuring only 2 days behind rather than a full week.

In IVF it's NOT normal to be measuring a full week behind when we knew exact conception dates (an embryo can only live so long in the uterus after all).  But my RE hung in there with me.  I now have a very healthy 9.5 month old.  Only interesting thing is he is definitely on the small side even now.  He's not on the charts for height and at his 9 month appointment he finally hit the chart at 5% for weight.  There's nothing wrong, he's just little. :)

  • Hi sweetie,

I know how hard it is.  I really do.  I was in the same position 3 months ago.  Baby had a heartbeat, but it was around 70, and so we waited 2 weeks.  When we went in, we found that baby B had passed away around the same day or a day after that ultrasound.   D/C revealed Tri-15 which is incompatible with life.

You have to stay hopeful for that little bean that is fighting, but I guess realistic if that makes sense.

Praying for you and that little bean.
