Yes, it does deserve it's own post even tho I mentioned it in another thread...
My very good friend and his man are getting married today. They've been together for over 5 years and engaged for 3. Finally they are able to make it official! They're having a small courthouse ceremony and dinner at a fancy restaurant. My H is looking at me weird cuz I'm so excited. I think he's all "what? It's just a wedding".
Any who... it's pretty funny cuz my friend just sent out a FB invite to "Gay Wedding" last week. I've been trying to get DS to say "happy gay marriage!" but he just repeats "happy feet". He's getting "congratulations" down better.
Happy marriage equality everybody!
Re: Gay Wedding!
That is Awesome! My friend and her wife just had a little boy on 1/1/13 - I am so happy that they could get married and start a family
Yay for equal rights!
My father and his partner live in Texas. I know they had some kind of ceremony a couple years ago (they have been together for I think 7 years-ish now) but I don't think they are legally married.
Maybe one day they will be. But, I don't really like his partner. He is a real ass, tbh. But, if thats who makes my dad happy so be it. Sucks they can't share the same equal opportunity others can.
And this may be total flame worthy on here- but I don't see why you want your kid to say "Happy Gay Marriage". Why not just Happy Marriage? I understand the significance and struggle of equality they have endured. But- shouldn't we try to treat it the same instead of attaching the label of "gay marriage" to it? I don't know- it just seems like you are throwing an asterisk next to them getting married because it is a marriage between two men. I guess I am probably in your Husbands camp- it is just another wedding and I think the sooner people stop pre-qualifying Gay Marriage with the word Gay, the better off it is to becoming the "norm". No one says "Happy Interracial Marriage!" or anything. Just my .02! Congratulations to your friends!!!!!!
It's a joke because of the "Gay Marriage" FB invite. My friend would find it hilarious if DS would actually say it.
ETA: and honestly I am super excited about this particular wedding BECAUSE it is for 2 men. I hope that in the future a gay wedding won't be so "different" but as of now? It's a pretty big freaking deal.
YAY!
The best wedding I have been to recently was my HS friend's. Her and her wife just celebrated their one year anniversary. Her dad (a judge) officiated. We are in NY and part of the ceremony was her dad talking about how if it were a year earlier, this ceremony would not be legally binding.
I cried like a baby through the entire ceremony-- so much so that DH had to get me tissues.
Edited to fix wording

I have been watching on DVD lately.
We just got home. It was great! I did manage to keep my composure during the vows. Altho it was very hard since the judge damn near broke down as she pronounced them spouse and spouse. Turns out she has been with her wife for 25 years and my friends were the 1st gay couple she's married. ::heart melt::
Thanks everyone for the well wishes! My friends are so happy!
My kid's 1st wedding too!
