Exchanging email

What are advantages and disadvantages of exchanging email address with the birth family? Thanks!

    Advantages: open up another line of communication, can ask questions, etc. through that medium, don't have to go through a third party to communicate

    Disadvantages: If the BPs are unstable, they can use that avenue to manipulate/upset you, etc. And if you're not comfortable with knowing each other's names, it can feel somewhat intrusive.

    FWIW, DH wants to talk to DD's BM about setting up an e-mail account to communicate with her. We have a blog for her to see, but if we have questions (or vice versa) we want a more private way to talk to each other. We plan on setting it up so she doesn't see our personal info.
