Every once in a while I get a glimpse of a special skill set one of the ladies on our board has. For example, we all turn to Penny for baking questions. Who else is an expert in something? Do we have any pediatricians, nurses, or attorneys on our board? Anyone willing to answer questions in your particular field?
Re: What's Your Expertise?
Didn't someone have the title of BJ queen?
I certainly hopes someone claims this and hangs up her "The Doctor is In" sign for questions.
That was Lopes.
I'm a fashion girl.
Ha! I also dig fashion, but I'm limited considering where I live. It doesn't help I don't leave the house daily. I don't practice it anywhere but for family and friends, but I'm a great massage therapist.
I also a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, although I don't actively use those those certifications right now.
Ooh, question: I'm running close to a 5k recently. I'm looking to buy a new treadmill, because mine is terrible. I discovered how terrible it was after I easily ran almost twice the distance at my gym as I do at home. I need something to keep me training for the long haul.
I teach ESL so if you ever want to know about English, I'm your lady!
I also run a home-based bakery so I can tell you about that stuff, but my focus is on healthy baked goods.
I nerd out about nutrition and food politics so I love to talk about that stuff, too.
I used to teach lessons and train horses, too, in several different disciplines, but that got pushed to the back burner when I got pregnant and my two horses are just my own little hobby now.
Precor and Life Fitness make the best treadmills I've ever tried, but I'm not sure how much the athome ones cost? I will say I run more outside than on the treadmill...dreadmill is more like it. Ha!
Thank you! I miss outside. I can run in the cold, but I can't do it well with snow on the ground. Plus, I do a lot of my running while baby is napping.

Same here! I'm early childhood/special education
I am a microbiologist and specifically study the ability of microbes to survive even after you try to kill them. I also study their ability to break down toxic compounds in the environment.
Additionally, I fly fish, camp, cross country ski and do other outdoor stuff so I can probably answer some questions about those things.
My expertise is in putting things together. So I have no knowledge to share. But... I can put together/hook up pretty much anything. Have been able to do so since I was a kid.
I think I should have been an electrician or a construction worker.
ETA: I am an avid snowboarder and traveler. (Well, I was before becoming a mom). I can probably answer questions about snow gear, ski resorts (some) and flying internationally.
Yup. I love givin the BJs. MHs work is inside of a BJs wholesale store, true story. I'm pretty knowledgeable in financial aid and college stuff and my educational background is in substance abuse counseling. I also know quite a bit about kitchen remodeling, counter top surfaces, blue prints, plot maps and salon hair care products. If you've ever bought salon product from a Wegmans or BiLo/Bruno chances are I helped make the planogram. I also did some OPI set ups for some stores.
Writer.
Got my degree in English (non-literature emphasis - focus was on writing) and have been working in contracts for the government ever since.
I've got a couple of fiction books that I have started, just waiting to see which idea takes hold and becomes one I can run with. I also write a blog about raising DS that I enjoy quite a bit.
Ill remember that next time i have a problem with dylans IEP
I am putting you in my special book. Dylan has speech therpy and i feel like its not often enough
My expertise is that I've worked in news/media for 13 years. No idea how that can be helpful to anyone! I do however like to consider myself Nancy Drew and like to solve mysteries.
When we first came back from Benin my dh was suffering from Loa Loa, but it was near impossible to find a dr that believed him, or new how to treat him.
Immigration to the USA or to Canada..
Im not a complete expert but i know a bunch.
My grad school focus was behavioral ecology, but now my job deals with reproductive physiology. If you have questions about birth control, I'm your girl.
I am also a pit bull enthusiast and volunteered with a local rescue group for years. I know a fair amount about dog training, but my dogs are certainly not perfect! Oh, I have two birds too and I know a lot about parrots as pets:)
The important stuff.

How do I train my dogs to stay the hell out of the trash? Every Effing Day lately!! It's ridiculous. Today MH caught one of our dogs with his paws up on the counter eating out of a butter tub. They're well fed, but they think the trash is their shmorgusboard (I totally butchered the spelling there.)
Immigration into Canada, just did that
All things Germany as I am German, and a lot of Europe questions.
Everything else, I know odds and ends...
Wish I'd known that before the interview I just had.
I wouldn't say I'm an expert in anything, but I'm very good at helping with proofreading/editing. I'm an elementary school teacher, with a strong background in teaching Science to grade 7 and 8 students. I also have a passion for arts-based education (using the arts to teach all subjects).

I'm feeling so expertise-less. I cook and bake a lot and I would be a good addition to your trivia team, but that's about it.
I was supposed to be starting my masters in library science, but we couldn't swing the tuition so I deferred. I hope I'll be able to find some financial aid so that I can start in the fall.
