Sleep Sack Question

Hello Ladies!

When did you or will you stop using a sleep sack? I need to get Mason a bigger one but was just thinking that maybe we could see how a real blanket would work but wanted to see what everyone else does.

Thanks!

Re: Sleep Sack Question

  • I never tried a sleep sack and stopped swaddling around 5 months old. Dylan was never a big swaddler, either was Aidan.

Now that Dylan is bigger he uses a crib sized duvet for the cold winter months. He's been using it for about 1.5 months now. He never stays under it though. Every night beforeI go to bed, I go in and tuck him back in again.

  • We still use them at night...with a blanket. She gets mad if I don't put it on her. I figure when she quits bringing it to me, we'll stop using it. That being said, she will sleep without it. She does occasionally at night and for every nap.

  • We still use them, and we'll probably use them until she grows out of it. I'm not sure if I will switch over to the toddler sacks with the feet holes or just switch to a regular blanket at that time. I think we've still got a few months to go, she's in the XL size now.

I'm surprised that LO's will still tolerate them! I never used them on Hadley (we used the Woombie until she was good at rolling) but I would think with our mobile babies they'd make it hard to stand/walk in their crib?

Not at all. The only thing it prevents is her being able to lift her leg to climb out of the crib. Other than that, she can get up and walk around and jump in there as usual.

  • DS can run in his, not far, but it doesn't hinder movement.  I do think it might have helped in preventing climbing out experimentation though.  We will probably use one through the winter for the extra warm.  I know he still finds comfort in it (he'll pull it out of the dryer, sign for nap, and start heading for the stairs), but I'm hoping to switch over to blankets before making the transition to a regular bed in the summer/fall.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I probably stopped around 7 or 8 months, DD just refused to sleep in them any longer. We started using a blanket and she likes that much better.
  • I love ours. I can't imagine LO keeping a blanket right now since she moves all over the place, but we haven't tried, so who knows. DD did manage to get out of the crib in hers, so I can tell you it definitely doesn't restrict movement too badly... It's not tight like a woombie.

  • We have four!  They are the toddler kind, with the feet-holes.  My mom sewed them.  They are great for my LO who needs to be WARM but hates blankets (kicks them off, wakes herself up in the night doing so).  When she walks in them, the fleece pools right above the floor so it looks like she's floating, haha!

  • We used one for a while.. Can't remember when we switched to blankets, maybe around 1 year? Now DS has a few blankets in his crib and throughout the night he will get underneath them or throw them off of him, depending if he's hot or cold I guess. We keep our home pretty warm though so I'm not worried about him being cold.

  • Thank you for your responses.  We keep the house at 68 degrees at night, so I'm not sure if he'll be too cold without one or not.  When I put him in fleece pajama's I skip the sleep sack but with thin cotton ones I just feel like he needs more.  I think we'll try using his crib blanket and see if he'll stay under that.  He has a lovey blanket that I notice he'll use as a pillow or pull it over himself.

    Thanks again!
