Parenting after a Loss

Rolling over

Within the past week, DD has been rolling over from her back to belly constantly. She is obsessed with her new milestone! Lol but now she is doing it in the crib which scares the heck out of me since she hasn't mastered rolling over from belly to back. She has only done that about two times. So I end up going in and turning her on her back again but I see this turning into a game! Lol any advice!?

Re: Rolling over

  • It's scary but once they roll to their stomachs it's okay to leave them like that. If they get upset, of course roll them over. But if they're happy leave them. I watched my boys on the monitor very frequently throughout the night when they first became belly sleepers.

  • Our pedi said that when M was strong enough to roll over his neck was strong enough to be a belly sleeper. So we just left him that way. M slept (& still does sleep) much better on his belly.

  • Thanks ladies but of course she screams when she is on her belly so unless she just isn't used to it and will take time or she hates it! Lol silly girl!

This.  DS did scream sometimes, but it was when I flipped him back over to his back. I think at that stage they are just figuring out what they like.  Hopefully it will all work out soon.

G hates it too, and recently started rolling to her back. DH jokes that now she never has to do tummy time again :]

DS does the same thing.  He tries relentlessly to go from back to belly and then when he makes it to his tummy he screams until he flips himself back onto his back.  He's getting better with tummy time though and will stay on his belly longer stretches before rolling himself over.  From what I understand rolling can be pretty scary for them in the beginning and is part of the reason they get so fussy or scream when they first start doing it.

At night when he rolls to his belly I usually will watch him for a while on the monitor and let him figure out for himself how to flip back.  He's been rolling belly to back though since he was about 11wks old.
