I had to come in to LD last night because I was having frequent contractions. My cervix isn't doing anything and the baby is completely fine but I'm still having contractions that are 2-3 minutes apart. Usually they don't hurt but sometimes there is some very very minor cramping pains. I've been given 2 bags of fluids and something to stop the contractions or at least space them out with no effect. I had a little bleeding but that could have been from the exam and has stopped now. There was some talk of partial placental abruption but there is no perinatologist here to do an ultrasound over the weekend.
At this point my doctor is saying "I have no idea why you are contracting so much" which isn't the most reassuring thing! However, nothing bad seems to be happening.
Has anyone had any experience with something like this before?
Re: 29 weeks and contractions every 2-3 minutes
This was exactly what happened to me at 34 weeks with DS, but I didn't have the flu just stupidly wasn't drinking enough water. IV and terbutaline worked like a charm. GL with everything!
They did a swap test and checked my cervix to determine that I was not in PTL and not in danger of it happening. They checked my urine and I had a mild UTI, that was irritating my uterus. I was totally asymptomatic for a UTI so I was surprised. They gave me a shot of terbutaline to stop the contractions and sent me on my way and I've been fine ever since.
I hope and pray everything is ok for you and your little one.
this, except they didn't give me an IV, they just told me to drink more, had me drink in the hospital and the contractions stopped after a couple hours(mine was lots of fun on NYE)
I had the same thing around 29 weeks and I've been having timetable BH ever since then, off and on.
I get BH if I'm tired, hungry, thirsty/dehydrated, constipated, have to go to the bathroom, have overdone it, etc. I get monitored twice weekly (NSTs and BPPs) and they always ask me about my contractions (because they always show up), but it's basically just something I have to deal with.
