Vacation help

In March, we're going to Hawaii for my brother's wedding.  DH, DD & I are sharing a condo with my mom & my aunt (her sister).  We opted for a 3 bedroom condo, because they don't want to sleep together in the same room.  DD will sleep in a pack n play in our room.

So, without adding family history or personal finances, I'm asking you ladies an unbiased opinion how we should split the cost..

Sorry won't let me make it clicky...

• 5 people divide the cost 5 ways (ie: we pay 60%)
• Divide the cost by 4 adults (so we pay 50%, and they each pay 25%)
• Divide the cost by bedroom (so we pay 33%, and they each pay 33%)

or other suggestions?

Based on how you are asking it sounds like there is some drama involved.  I would pay 60% because you and your little family are going to take up the most room with all your luggage/toys etc.  We stayed in a condo in Vail with my parents over Thanksgiving and I was shocked with how we exploded the 2 bedroom timeshare with all our stuff luggage/toys/stroller/blankets/books/crayons...(you get the picture)  while my parents luggage was in one corner.

I'd divide by the four adults. I don't have a clever explanation for why, but it seems like the way my family would work.

Anytime we do family vacations we split it between the adults

Edit: By the adults does sound like the most fair.  That's how a hotel would work too.

Five Months to Plan

I will be different here and say split by bedroom. If we are only talking the cost of the condo itself, you are not getting any more rooms than they are. Now if you are talking food that would be by person or adult. I acknowledge you as two adults will use more water for showers or something but unless you are being charged for that. I say you each get a bedroom so split three ways.

This. I assume since you are asking that they are expecting you to pay more than a third.

I would go by bedroom and then you guys offer to pick up groceries.

I'd pay per room since you are not getting any more space than they are. Other than that, I'd keep all of the spending separate, you pay for your families groceries and other expenses, they pay for theirs.

Last summer we vacationed with both set of our parents separately and this is what we did then.

I agree to split by bedroom.  Just because you are squeezing more people into a bedroom doesn't mean you should pay more.  Food is different--if you're sharing costs of food then you guys should pay a larger share.

Are the bedrooms fairly comparable? If they're all the same, I'd split it three ways. If you guys are getting the "master suite" with nicer accommodations, it would be nice to pick up a larger % of the cost (maybe up to 50%).

Ooh, Hawaii is great!  You're going to love it.

I would split by the adults only.  Little kids shouldn't be factored in.  When we've done group trips with friends in hotel rooms or in rented houses, we've always split it by adult.

I usually split by bedroom (assuming the rooms are relatively comparable).  It's worked both for and against me (as far as money outlay).  I've payed 50% for a hotel room that I shared with a married couple I know (nothing crazy, we technically split the price by bed, not by room). But I've also payed 33% when DH and I shared a room in a 3-bedroom house (with me, DH, SIL, MIL, and FIL).

My second option would be to split it by adults.  There is no way I would factor DS into the cost, unless he was getting his own room.
