Health & Exercise

Don't give me crap, please!!

Not sure if I should be on here but I have a health question that when I ask anyone close to me they say, "well, I wish I had that problem" and obviously that doesn't help!

Anywho, my question is how do I HEALTHILY gain weight. I'm 5'6" and 115lbs and I want to add 10lbs. I've slowly been able to gain ten pounds since my first MC in February, so I'm certain I have a quick metabolism. Any/All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

  • Keeping track of your eating habits can be an eye opener.  I had no idea that I wasn't eating nearly enough to keep weight on.  Sparkpeople.com is a great free website that has a good charting area.  It's really calories in vs. calories out, so tracking it may be key for you.

Also, you may want to take a look at the book Fertility Cycles & Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon.

Ditto this.   Good luck to you.  That's great that ou want to achieve a healthier weight the healthy way.   Perhaps more good fats like avocado?   More lean proteins?
  • A woman at work has this same problem. She actually found she had a gluten intolerance, which I think was making it hard for her to gain weight. She's eating gluten free now and adding a lot of healthier fats into her diet like avocado, nuts, etc.

  • Eat a lot of calories. Snack. Drink Muscle Milk, especially as a midnight snack.

  • Another good website and app that a lot of people use is MyFitnessPal. I've never had to try to put on weight, but the principles behind should be more calories in than out. If you keep eating what you normally eat but add in a few snacks without increasing your cardio that should help. I'm pg so I'm eating a little extra. I go with a bowl of cereal after my normal dinner, nuts, hard boiled eggs, healthy fats, and maybe some unhealthy fats too :) Try adding weight lifting to your workout routine.

  • Thank you everyone. I'm going to go out and buy some avocado and some nuts. Thank you for the website references, I'm checking them out! :)

     You ladies rock!

  • I have the same problem. Up until about a year ago, I was 5'8'' and 115lbs. It sucks, I know! What did it for me was really upping my calories and working out. I know, the working out seems totally illogical for putting on weight, but it worked. I built a lot of muscle and ended up gaining about 10 lbs while training for a triathlon. Trying doing some light to medium weightlifting and upping those calories. I definitely recommend tracking- I used My Fitness Pal.

  • I have nothing to add to help, I would just respond "I find it disturbing that you would welcome a health problem in any form."
