blindside annoucements

So, I know we have posts on being upset by announcements all the time so it's nothing new.  And for me, I've gotten fairly good at hearing them when I know it's either someone that is trying or a newly married couple.  But today I got blindsided twice.  

One was from an old school bump girl.  Her LO just turned one and apparently this is the first month she stopped breast feeding, had not even had per period return yet.  I guess I shouldn't be so surprised by this one, but since we talk in a forum that talks about TTC and babies all the time - usually people mention that they are starting TTC #2.  Oh well.  

Then tonight a FB friend of mine was doing a recap of 2012.  I've known him the last 14 years.  We used to lifeguard together at a local beach.  He used to have a huge crush on me but he was 17 when I was 21 so I told him he was too young, but we stayed friends.  In his long recap me mentioned finally having a salaried job, paying bills like an adult, meeting the love of his life, moving in together.  Way to go buddy.  Then he dropped the bomb of them being 15 weeks.  Seriously? You're not married.  You yourself in this post mention this is the first year making a living that you don't have to borrow money from your dad to pay bills.  And you just met her this spring.  Ugh.  

I'm so much more comfortable with announcements I can see coming.  I hate being blindsided.  I guess I should be thankful they were both online so I could just come here to rant instead of having to say something to their face.  But I can't bring myself to congratulate either.  Yet.  I'm sure I will, but for today...not gonna happen.

Yuck - I know the feeling! Sorry you got it twice in one day! You're right though, reading them online is a lot easier than having to hide your shock (and jealousy, disappointment, sadness, etc.) when someone smacks you in the face with it. I often wonder what I must look like when someone announces it when I wasn't expecting it. I bet I'm not as good of an actress as I think I am...

Ugh! I agree that if you're somewhat expecting it, it makes it easier to hear the news. I was completely blindsided over Xmas - in person and on CD 1 - by some friends, who then went into great detail about symptoms, telling their family, how they hid it from us last time we had dinner, etc. The best was when she brought out onesies and socks to show us. I handed it to my DH without even looking. I started tearing up at one point, but managed to hold it together until we were in the car before I lost it.

Ugh I know the feeling and being blindsided is the absolute worst. I've had a couple of those lately and they are hard to swallow. The unmarried unplanned ones are the worst too, not because I have anything against that situation but more because I know they weren't trying and probably don't want to be pregnant.

I know what you mean. There's a girl I went to college with who just got married January 2012. Sometime around late summer, I noticed she had gone back to her maiden name and was plastering pictures with her and a new guy all over facebook. She just announced on Christmas that she's pregnant with new guy's baby. Bah humbug. And they knew the gender already so she must be pretty far along.

I have such a hard time with those. I work in an ER and tell 16 year old girls all the time that they are pregnant. Sometimes, I am pretty sure they just come into the ER for a pregnancy test and an ultrasound so they can show off their pregnancy to their friends. Who will in turn come in very soon wanting to be pregnant. It's so hard that during my own early and probably most fertile years of my life, I was working so hard to AVOID pregnancy and now I have to go through so much to try to have a baby. Hugs for you for dealing with this.

Ugh I am so sorry you got blindsided twice in 1 day!  that is the worst.  Luckily they were both online and not in person.  I have been blindsided at work a few times, not fun!

I'm sorry, that sounds really difficult to deal with. It's been about two months since someone I know announced a pregnancy so I'm sure it's overdue. I'm very glad I stopped doing Facebook or I'm sure I would have this happen more. Can you take a FB break?

Hugs, that is the absolute worst. My DH and I have been blindsided once by his brother, and it was absolutely horrible. I found out I am a horrible actor.

I'm so sorry! I got blindsided by my best friend. She knew I had been ttc and was excited about. I had been ttc for 8 months when she gave me a call. She lives a coulpe of hours away so we meet up to see a movie we are waiting to see together. Anyways, She called me on the phone and said "Something is coming out in March that I think you would be interested in" so I said "what is it?" and she said "My Baby!" I was totally blindsided and had no idea they were ttc so I said "what's that going to be about?". I tried to put on a positive, happy voice but I was so upset when I got off the phone. That was my first "breakdown" about tttc. I'm much better now and very happy for her, but I was TOTALY blind sided!!
