He is nine years old. I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. Last year we had SS for the Christmas holiday and bc of the CO and his first day back at school, it was technically DH day. However, we returned to SS home early and agreed to share SS with BM on his birthday. She was appreciative and even tho there were awkward moments I am glad we agreed to the joint birthday party.
This year we are completely on the other side of the world. DH called SS right when he woke up and is going to call him again later today. Part of me, well more than part of me wishes we were closer to SS and could spend the day with him. SS has expressing a lot more lately how he wants to move in with us and as he gets older we know eventually it is a decision that could be considered in court.
On another note, SS turning a year older just reminds me that he is still an only child. I've known him for more than half his life and he's been asking for a sibling. I can see that DH is hurt that his son doesnt have a sibling to grow with (DH has 6 siblings) and that we still dont have a baby. Today is just bittersweet for me I guess.
Also BM texted asking if we wanted to contribute to SS birthday party today. Pretty late notice in my opinion, but we still transferred her funds. I just wish we were there to celebrate with him and I hope she actually sends the pictures from the party she said she would.
