June 2011 Moms

moms of 2

I am wondering your opinions on double strollers and sitnstand strollers. We are hoping if all goes well to have a baby in November. DD will be 2.5 so I know i will still want to stroll her at times. What have you all done that seems to work best? Any pros or cons of either? Or other options or suggestions?

Re: moms of 2

  • DS1 was 21 months when DS2 arrived. I think the double stroller was a necessity. Being a city dweller and all. It still gets a decent amount if use although now DS1 walks most of the time but its great when he gets tired and we still have a lot of walking to do.

  • Though I'm not there yet, we will be soon. We're looking at the City Select so if DS gets too big, or antsy, I could change the stroller back to a single. My thought is the longer he'll stay in a stroller, the easier my life will be. A friend of mine did the sit stand when her daughter was almost 3 and they hated it because she would get off at every stop.

All of this is why we have the city select and LOVE it.  It's expensive, but worth it to me.  Not everyone needs a double (if you plan to wear the LO for a while you can push your older one in a single) but for my family a double is a must.  When someone acts out, in the stroller they go!

I always advocate looking on craigs list for a used one to save money.  Or if you have tons of time you can wait until they come out with the "new" version and you can usually get "last years model" at a discount.

I don't like the sit and stand strollers because the second child doesn't have a full seat, depending on your toddler, it might work for you, none of my kids ever liked sitting in that spot (my mom bought one), also and FYI- with the sit and stand the front seat doesn't recline much because the back "bench" is so close to it.

  • Granted, I have twins not two kids seperated by age, but I have the sit n stand double stroller that actually has 2 seats not the ugly frame looking one without the seat. I love that one for shopping because it can squeeze into the isles, but I hate that it's so hard to push. Sometimes it's like a workout when we are loaded down with them, the diaper bag, shopping bags, etc. My favorite is the side by side jogging stroller. That thing can be manuvered with one hand & can turn on a dime!! It's like one has power steering & the other doesn't. LOL  My sister also picked up a side by side Combi & yeah I love that it folds up easily & you can carry it with a shoulder strap, but I wouldn't waste money on it. To me it's the biggest piece of crap out there. It reminds me of two cheap umbrella strollers put together.
