Baby Names

Boys name

We are currently waiting for number three.
If a boy, we are drawn to name after our fathers.
I always thought I'd name a boy Charlie (my dad) but BFF just had a boy and named him Charlie after her late father.

So... what do you think of Charles... no Charlie or any NN).

Also, what do you think of Charles Mel (as in St. Mel)?

FIL is Melvin and I can't bring myself to Melvin.  But Mel might work.  We are Catholic and the story of St. Mel is one I can embrace.

(Sibs are Mary Jane and Betsy (Elizabeth).

Re: Boys name

  • I love the name Charlie! You can call him Charles when he is being bad... haha As for Melvin, I know a very sweet little boy named Melvin, and EVERYONE calls him Mel. Its cute too. I think Charles Melvin is a nice name.

I actually prefer Charles to Charlie.

I also happen to not mind Melvin.  Since it's the mn spot you won't use it everyday. I think either Charles Melvin or Charles Mel are nice and a great way to honor family.

    All this.

You could still use Charlie as a nn. You are honoring a family member so it's not like you named your child Charlie because your BFF did. I wouldn't let that keep me from using a name I really liked.

  • My husband and I are kicking around Charles. I like it.  I want to use the nn Charley, but he wants to use the nn Chaz.  If you like Chaz, there's a legit nn for Charles :)

  • I am not big of naming kids NN. So Charles is great to me! And it will still honor your family just as well. I think Charles Mel or Charles Melvin are both fine. As someone else mentioned you don't use your MN much so it wouldn't be to big of a deal.
  • Charles is very nice, and Mel or Melvin definitely work as mns.
  • I like Charles, and although I'm not a fan of Mel or Melvin I vote for Melvin. Mel seems like a NN to me, not a full name.
